Brother Micah.
This is the third time I've seen him on campus over the past two weeks, but I'm sure he's been here a lot more than I've seen.

Basically, he's a religious nutjob that scream-preaches in the middle of the plaza here, but he travels to a couple of other campuses in VA and Ohio. It's funny because he gains a huge crowd of people shouting stuff like "Go home! Why are you preaching here? Go away" etc.

It's not the fact that he's deeply religious, it's the fact that he has the audacity to shove it down everyone's throats that they're going to hell. Heh, little does he know, "Hell" is actually other people.

Welcome to Michigan I'm nonreligious and people have tried to convert me to Christianity so many times Like they figure if you don't look Arab, Indian, or Jewish, you have to be Christian.

YES. He was here a couple weeks ago and I sat around watching him for a while. If you go into listen for fun, the whole thing can be quite humourous. But yeah, he's a weird guy.

Terra: That's funny and extremely ignorant considering the large populations of Christian South Asian people and Arabs I know!

Well, I meant more the other way around Like, to these people it's OK for an Arab to be Muslim or Christian, or an Indian to be Hindu, Sikh, etc. or Christian, but European and African people are expected to be Christian

Screaw religion, I have video games!

Thankfully, sweden is religious free in school. Plus, they are not allowed to go around and keep forcing it down peoples throats!

Yeah, in the USA they work "God" into everything sometimes In elementary school, we had to say a pledge referencing "God" every morning, the money says "In God We Trust", etc. I don't believe in the Abrahamic deity

Too bad. I'd get out my Bible and start arguing the meaning of it with him in the plaza.

Ah, the usefulness of learning what's in there while being an atheist.

It doesn't specify a god. I won't pretend I know a thing about US history and I know that god with a capital G typically refers to the Christian god, but I also find it equally ignorant that one just assumes that when god is mentioned it means the Christian god, despite the "popularity" of his usage or whatever you want to call it. Personally I feel it means in any god you trust. Be it buddha, or even if you are athiest then in something you believe in strongly. Its kind of like saying "we trust in what we truly believe in", its kind of just like a saying, you know? Again I'm not from here so for all I know it could have everything to do with Christianity. But its nice to look at it in other ways, too, especially since America is a melting pot~

As for the nutjob...I really don't get them. I'm a pretty religious myself but I would never go around preaching my agenda down other people's throats. To me, religion is somewhat of a personal experience...you should keep it to yourself because its a genuine connection between you and your beliefs. When you go around forcing them on others I feel like that kind of belittles whatever connection you had because you aren't really believing in something other than just because you feel like those who aren't will go to hell etc...you know what I'm saying .-.

There are a few problems with this. First of all, God, in both our motto and The Pledge of Allegiance, is, indeed, capitalized. Second of all, these were both added in the 50's, mainly because we wanted to separate ourselves from those "godless" communists; the reasons were pretty religious too, especially when considering Eisenhower's (the president at the time's) "...As long as this country trusts in God, it will prevail," which was said when it was adopted as the country's motto. (Not to mention the near 150 years of support it has had from the Christians.) Third of all, defining the "God" as "something you can strongly believe in" is quite a stretch, considering its origins. (Let alone the "useless definitons of god" thing.) Fourth of all, even if it is a saying, unlike, say, "bless you", it's supported by the government, which is exactly one of the things that were decided not to do with this country; granted, there are worse problems with government sponsored religion around here, but it's still not constitutional. Finally, I really think our old motto, E pluribus unum (Out of many one), really fits the whole melting pot thing much better.

In conclusion, adding "under God" right before "indivisible" in The Pledge of Allegiance was one of the most ironic events in US history.

Oh no, not him. He's come here many times. A lot of people like to try and freak him out by playing off his xenophobia. He's now afraid to shake people's hands on our campus.

Extreme religious fanatics, regardless of which religion, always cause trouble.

Edit: This also includes extreme atheists.

Yeah. The Founding Fathers, while religious themselves, actually demanded there be separation in order to allow people to believe deeply in their religion, without the State telling them how they should believe in, say, Christianity for them, as England had done.
