I fell asleep on the train on my way home from school.
The system we use here is train cards (kinda) and depending on what one you have you can travel further away from the big city.

Well I wake up right after I missed my stop and the card does not go any longer distance.

The guy in charge was nice and did let me go of easy without having to pay the extra fee as long as I got off at the next stop.

So I spent the next hour walking the 4-5km back to the station where I was supposed to go off at!

(Fuck my life?)

That sucks.

I've fallen as sleep in class before, but never on public transportation. I guess it's more of a fear than anything.

This used to happen to me a lot when I took public transit to and from school back when I lived in New York. I had to leave very early in the morning and was usually very tired on the way home, so sometimes I would fall asleep and occasionally go too far past my stop, causing me to have to walk a pretty sizable distance from that point to get back home.

Though... strangely enough, most of the time when I fell asleep I would wake up either right before or right at my stop. Is this a result of extreme repetition? I should write a thesis about this. :specialed:

It never happened to me, as I tend to stay awake in public transportation...

But yeah that sucks.

That must suck.. good thing the guy let you off without having to pay.
I've only used public transportation a couple times, so I can't say I've had that problem.

I have a very hard time falling asleep on any form of transportation. When I take a red-eye flight, I become a zombie.

If you ever catch me sleeping on the train, I'm EXTREMELY exhausted. Otherwise, I never sleep on the train, because of that one time I had my DS stolen.

I fell asleep on the school bus once back in middle school. When I woke up, my backpack was inside out.

I always fall asleep in a bus. Luckily, I often sleep so that my backpack is niftly stuffed somewhere safe. And I sleep small periods, often waking up and checking where we are going on at the moment.

Guess six years of buss riding really pays off... somehow.

On my second or so day home from Kindergarten, I missed my stop. I guess I didn't know the concept of keeping track of where I am and at which stop to get off My mom actually followed me onto the bus

The city buses in the city here have a voice notification of the next bus stop (*dun dun dun* Marktplatz). Usually that's enough to wake me up.

Yes, Kassad, but wouldn't that wake you up at every stop? Unless you're talking about long-distance buses, that is

Now you know why I can never sleep in public transport.

The longest distance between two bus stations in the city bus is when it drives over to the suburb, since it has to take the freeway to do so.

Yeah, I figured you meant city buses, but does Germany also have buses that go between totally different cities, like Berlin to Hamburg? Like Greyhound in the USA.

Maybe you don't need it there with all the trains though Amtrak sucks

Usually there are no such long distance buses (yeah they're really pointless with all the trains). There are several buses to Berlin though which is a relic of the Cold War area (West Berlin was separated from the rest of Germany and not easily accessible), but that's it.

Same for me 4-5 years ago when I had a 1 hour bus ride to work (and back) ... I had to get up at 6:00 AM and wasn't back home until about 7:30 PM, so I was always low on sleep and slept in the bus

The stop in the morning was a terminus so I never missed it (always woke up right before), and I usually woke up near my stop on the way back, I did miss it a few times but never by much ... I think the worst I had was a 20 minute walk

no kidding. I have an australian buddy who backpacked around the states last winter, and he found out it was significantly cheaper to fly all over than to ride amtrack or greyhound. how did we screw up public transit so bad

Hard for me to fall asleep on a bus or subway... it's noisy and I'm not dead tired at the start/end of my shift.

Plus there's too many people talking and moving around.

Funny how you'd think trains would be cheaper than planes due to the travel time and yet they cost MORE. Sometimes even more for first class on a train as opposed to a plane. How the hell did that happen?

I know We were considering taking the train from Ulm to Paris, but it was so expensive that we just went Ulm to Frankfurt and then flew to Paris.
