Most of your posts are really short, so I suppose it doesn't matter in the long run... but it would very quickly get annoying if you actually added some length to your posts.

I had never heard of the layout maker myself...

Yeah, it was brought about sometime back. I guess people never really talked about it though. Even though I never needed to use it, I think it was quite useful for most people.

Upon learning of this "layout maker", I decided to make a crappy layout.

Yeah.
Edit: I wanna make this red box about 75 to 80 percent transparent.
How do I do that?

I think the layout maker can handle something along that sort, but I can't figure out if so or not. Anyway, another way to try it is filter:alpha(opacity='75');. You can add it to a <td>; for example, <td style="filter:alpha(opacity='75');">. The only thing about this is that it doesn't support many browsers; thus, will appear transparent in IE but likely not anywhere else.

No, it won't work in other browsers except IE. However, using the CSS2 `opacity` element will apply that to all child elements, even if you are using a fully opaque declaration in a child element with the !important pragma.

If you really need a transparent background, just use a semi-transparent PNG. Every modern browser has proper alpha channel support with PNGs (except IE6.x.)

If you want to make something work across ALL browsers (including Internet Explorer, let's not exclude it just because it sucks) then I would recommend against using any form of transparency that will not work in all browsers.

Be more creative than that, there are plenty of ways to create interesting layouts that do not require transparency.

Simplicity v1.1
Or have something based off of PNGs that look great in IE yet still have transparency in non-POSs like Firefox.

Not really, every layout these days has to have transparency

One thing that bugs me about the opacity filter is that it breaks Opera's text-smoothing

Thank you!! I never knew about it until today. And here I am, thinking I'll never have a layout ever again.

Bah, it still sucks...oh well..

Mine doesn't use it anymore, I just did it in Photoshop.

[edit] oh wait the level bar uses it n/m [/edit]

For transparency to work in all browsers, though, you need something like 3 different declarations last I checked. One for IE, one for Firefox (though I'm not sure this is still true), and one for everything else.

So I tried my hand at it again, using the Layout Maker, and now the layout it too freaking big (wide or what have you). I really suck at this sort of thing. I guess if I type a lot in a post, it'll look okay, but still, it doesn't look right to me. Urg, and trying to fill in this text box with a lot of words will get to be annoying after awhile.

Bah, this sucks.

^&^%&^&*^%!!!!

This is why I don't do things like this.

I knew I should have save all of my old layout codes. XD

The thing I've found annoying about making a tableless layout is people tend to complain about text flowing into other people's posts. Ironically this is usually due to quirks in how CSS is handled in other browsers (mine doesn't break in Opera.)

Might I suggest .yourclassname blockquote hr { display: none; }?

I've been kind of, sort of, working on new version of the layout maker (read: 20 minutes a week tops). Honestly, the current version's total garbage.

Actually, I've been working on a DHTML widget library and using a new layout maker as testbed. I'm thinking of incorporating some of what I have for the got done into the current layout maker. though. Maybe at least replacing the sliders. I don't know what I was thinking with those. They move all goofy, and you can't drag them. I guess I just couldn't get them working right at the time. I wrote some new code the other day and had them working perfectly in about 15 minutes.

Also, you see where it says hangman at the top? I'm not sure what the deal is with that, with everything being tiny, but after you reload it once it works fine.

I ended up doing {visibility: hidden;} instead of {display: none; } because when I don't display the <hr>, it ends up looking something like:

Also, thanks.

Oh, right, mine has .fonts as display: block, so it doesn't do that.
