After witnessing the disaster of a certain profile, I thought it'd be a great idea to have some general rules about layouts put into place. If just to prevent really awful ones from being created (again.)

- No huge pictures or excessive amounts of GIFs. Huge pictures just make threads longer to load and having too many GIFs can slow down some computers.
- No broken tables. If you're working with tables and feel that you might be messing up, check your post in your user profile. If the profile seems to be messed up, then the layout is as well. Broken tables can wreck havoc with threads.

If you have any questions about layouts in general or need help, visit the Modern Art forum.

They're common sense, really.

No idiot's going to read the FAQ. It needs to be in plain sight, and it has to be forcefully pressed upon newcomers.

And just for the record...

Antarctica as a continent does not exist.

No idiot's going to bother reading guidelines either

Just as long as the Admins are liberal in nuking terrible layouts, we should be fine.

I'm going to try asking Xk if he won't mind adding a link to a guidelines thread containing BooUrns's suggestion, and possibly sticking the link in the header.

I was thinking like "New members: Read This!" in the header...

Actually, the mass of bad signatures and headers is making me want to fetch BMF's post on the matter

In fact, I think it's time to rewrite it.

Speaking of layouts, this post is unreadable.

Okay, here's my attempt at some layout guidelines.

Hey, I've been seeing some really crappy text-only layouts recently. I'm here to tell you all about what to do and what not to do. Check out the following examples...

Confucious say:

Haha, that's pretty funny!

Keep up the good work!

Man who fart in church sit in own pew.
Good. This layout has clear demarcations between the header, post text, and the footer.

Hi, I have this to say:

Wow, that's creepy...

That's all folks!
Bad. This layout has no clear boundaries between header, post text, and footer.

KOOPA VON CRAPSALOT, POST #12hurf durf hey a stick of butter glomphlksjlksjflsllllGOOOOOOOOOOOALLL
Oh HELL no. When your header, post, and footer run together like THAT mess, you're banworthy. (credit for this example goes to BMF54123)

People don't want to read on the internet.

Nobody is going to read shit. "Guidelines", "Rules", "Frequently Asked Questions" or whatever you want to call it -- not going to get read.

How much do you read on the internet? Do you read anything that doesn't interest you? Bet you don't even read things that sites attempt to "force" you to read and agree to, do you? I know I sure as fuck don't.

The only way you are going to ensure that bad layouts don't go "live" on the forum is to have an approval system coded into the forum so accounts MUST be approved to become "live". It's the only way to idiot-proof it. And that has its own downsides, of course.

Eh, if one just deletes idiotic layouts on sight, the number of incidents with them should be minimized.
Also... that's one of the worst layouts I've ever seen... thank goodness Shadowyoshi's layout was eliminated.

Are you all glad I noticed him before he had a chance to post?

I alerted y'all in IRC. I'M THE HERO!

Anyway... I see the board has no issue with stupid animated layouts?
