I was at school when all of a sudden all of the classes in the school were called down to the gym for an important assembly. I don't think that I really understood it until I got home and my parents explained it to me, I had no idea what the twin towers were back then...

I was in fourth grade at the time it happened.
There were no announcements from the building principal, as far as I know.
All I can remember vividly is when I got home and saw it on the news, I started to cry.

I also seem to remember that I thought it was a factory fire when I was getting ready for school. I wasn't sure exactly why a factory fire was getting national attention until the end of the school day, when the school gave everyone a letter to us and our parents about what happened, how it should be explained to our children, etc., etc.

I remember a thread of some man who couldn't celebrate his birthday because of 9/11.

I was in biology class (lab) at college, then (after class) went on my board in the computer room as usual, saw a thread titled "World Trade Center", clicked on it and got the news ...

A while later, I heard other people (in the computer room) talking about it, then I got back home and it was on TV, and all over the newspaper the next day

And partly because of that, I still remember the silly spree we had the night before

I was sleeping when the attacks occurred; I think I had a cold, or something. Once I awoke, I found my mother on the verge of tears, and she explained to me what had happened. Afterwords, I watched a recording of it on the news. I didn't really think much of it at the time, as I had no idea as to what events this would lead up to in the near future.

I remember coming home from Middle school when this happened. I got home, put my bookbag down, turned on Toonami, watched some anime. And my Aunt busted in my room while I was watching TV and told me we were under attack.

At first I thought it was a joke, but I went downstairs and my jaw dropped.

I really did not know what to think about it to be honest. There was nothing I could do about it but sit and watch.

It really was not cool. But the thing in my mind was the families involved in the attack.

Geez, I'm just reading that thread from the old board... Best thing is that obviously we're all too lazy to be up at that time (or in school) because it's the European/Asian crew posting at first (Tuvai, SomerZ, Reini, Max) and some of the stuff in that thread... we shouldn't believe the media all the time.

I also think I'm the only person who used the smiley in the thread. XD

ALRIGHT then time for a not-shitpost in the 9/11 thread

On September 11 of 1773, Benjamin Franklin wrote an essay titled "Rules By Which A Great Empire May Be Reduced To A Small One". This draws some amusing, interesting, and occasionally ironic (although always completely coincidental) parallels to many of the other things that happened on the 11th of September (several of which are WW2 related!)

And that concludes tonight's episode of "interesting things you found while reading Wikipedia".

Also I think I managed to go the entire day without hearing anybody talk about the 9/11 attacks today, although I think that the TV Guide channel suddenly decided to switch to 9/11 attack footage in the middle of their nonstop Michael Jackson retrospective for some reason. That was kind of weird.

I was a junior in high school, we watched the news in most classes. It was a bit unsettling when fighter jets flew over our school.

I was a sophomore in high school. It happened while I was in my Business Tech class. Someone told our teacher to turn on the TV. Both towers had already been hit, but none had collapsed yet. We watched for a while. I wasn't really scared because I was in "oh wow this is like watching a movie" mode all day. I did keep wondering who we were going to go to war with with though and how soon we would declare war on whoever did it. I think right when the Pentagon was attacked, our principle came in and told my teacher to turn off the TV. Our teacher told us that the principle had received some announcement telling him to not let the kids in school know what was going on. We all thought this was bullshit, so we just left the TV on on mute as we tried to get on with class.

The halls were filled with kids going "OMG did you hear what happened?" as we switched classes. My next class didn't mention it at all. Then I went to study hall. During study hall I got called down to the office. Apparently my grandmother freaked out and showed up to take me home. I was PISSED. Not only did I know she was completely overreacting like she usually does, but I didn't have a chance to see the guy I had a crush on until my afternoon classes! She was convinced we were starting WWIII. It wasn't until I got home though that I realized that the towers had collapsed in the meantime.

-------------

A few days ago, I listened through the whole Howard Stern Show that aired that aired that day as well as the next. Their mood was far more dire. It was weird, it was like reliving that whole day over again, but without all the bullshit that got in my way of finding out what was going on. I wish I listened to Howard back then. Seems like he was actually the best news source. I'm still pissed that HIGH SCHOOLS choose to shield the kids. I can understand elementary, but High schoolers are old enough to handle it, and hiding shit like that from them only spawns massive rumors and makes the situation worse. Just another example that shows that schools really don't give a damn about EDUCATING the children.

Yeah it was tragic...

But why are people still going on about it?

Yeah, I don't live in america. And yes I know it was tragic. But I really think people should just move on.
I feel sorry for people that had relatives lost that day. But it must be a really pain in the ass to have it come back every fucking year.

I think people should just learn to move on. Bringing it up every damn year and talking about it in the media won't bring anyone back nor will it deal justice in any way or form.

I just think it's so pointless to see it everywhere at this time of the year.

---
As for all those years ago when it did happened...

We had a quiet minute(s) in class the day after. At that time I had yet to understand what it was about.
And I did not really care back then. I was just a kid back then anyway. :/

On 9-11, during 6th hour PE we went outside for baseball, and some students were like "Look, there's a plane!" (remember, US airspace was shut down)

People are more likely to not forget and move on, especially after Obama officially made it a EDIT: day of service.

I assume I was about 9 years old when it happened, but I can't recall when I learned about it or what was happening or any details at all. As far as I'm concerned the 9/11 attacks are something that I just know about.

That's a day of service, btw...

Paulguy's Post configuration
I was in 7th grade. I didn't find out until I got home. My school at the time was some really horrible place in the ghetto and they were pretty much afraid of overstimulating the students at all in case they'd riot or something... which, considering the students there, may have just happened...
