I didn't want to go with a poll because I'm lazy and for the most part, people post less in a poll thread. They just vote and leave.

Regarding soda, what to do you call it where you live?

Pop.

I often call them soft drinks online though, to avoid confusion or upsetting people

Always called it soda here. Everybody called it Pop when I lived in New York, though.

I don't understand the people who say "coke" for all soft drinks. To me, Coke is Coca-Cola.

It varies a lot in this area. I tend to call it pop most of the time, and a lot of people around here say soda, too, but everyone seems to know what you're talking about.

It gets worse in areas where everyone says Coke to represent all types of soda/pop.

Where I live, I call it a "Drink"
Maybe a Manly Drink for Men like me! HA! HA!

People I know just say "drink" or call it by the actual brand, like "coke" or "pepsi" or "orange crush"

I prefer soda, despite my geographic area insisting it's called pop, apparently.

Seriously...pop? Anya is right, it is a type of music that's all it should ever be.

I just call it soda. Or whatever brand of drink I want. Like if I want a Dr. Pepper, I'll call it that.

I also make fun of people who call it pop just for the fun of it.

Obligatory link to The Great Pop Vs. Soda Controversy. Michigan is pretty much the poppiest US state according to the county map.

Soda.

I remember when I first moved to Michigan and some waitress at some restaurant kept asking me if I wanted pop and I was like "what?????".

My parents had to explain to me what she meant. I honestly had no idea people actually called it that.
