I wasn't going to do this, but then I changed my mind (as you can see).

So anyway, where were you on Sept. 11th?

A year before it happened, almost to the day, I was actually in DC/VA. To think, if I was there a year later...

...so I was on the west coast of Florida for my hubby's grandfather's funeral. His funeral took place after the events had happened so the words that were spoken were changed a little bit to reflect on what had happened.

When I got back to work a few days later, the restaurant was totally empty. It felt like a ghost town.

I was in 6th grade and had just returned from my morning PE class to our trailer classroom out back. Our teacher turned on the television set and we started seeing the images on the screen. Both planes had already struck by this time but neither tower had fallen, so I'd place the time right around 8:20-8:30. Pretty soon, students began being called from class to be picked up by their parents. There were probably 5-10 students in my classroom of ~30 left by the time my mom arrived to get me and my brother. Neither of us realized the implications of what was happening at that point. We were simply too young to understand right away.

Ah, September 11th. The 11th day of the 9th month of the year. And it's a FRIDAY! Weekend's coming!

...Oh, THAT September 11th.

I was in a research methods class in CEGEP, so I knew nothing about it until after class was over. I had a feeling something was up because the mood in the hallways was... strange. Not somber or anything, but I got a weird vibe out of it. Then when I went to the mall across the street, I wondered why everyone was gathered around a TV outside the sports store, and... voila.

I was not alive, and neither were my parents, their parents, and at least ten more generations.

Other day, at school. I'm not a big fan of "never forget". I just think of it as done and have moved on.

I was asleep when I heard everyone telling me to turn on the TV. Saw the second plane hit. I was cranky and I still wanted to go back to sleep.

I was at school when the planes hit, the principal came over the PA and told the teachers not to turn on their TVs

an hour or so later everyone was running around screaming about "HOLY SHIT SOMEONE BOMBED THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING"

"Message to all teachers from the principal... please do not have any contact with the outside world until classes finish at 3:25 PM. I repeat, no contact with the outside world until 3:25 PM. You'll see why then. Thank you and have a great day."

Yeah, in the information age... :\

I was in my home school HQ, hearing about social studies, when the TVs were turned on and suddenly we saw the towers being blown up.

Naturally not much got done that day. I was in... 5th? maybe 6th grade then.

I remember going on the internet to talk about it, too.

I was in 8th grade and I was going to fake sick that day. It happened a couple hours before school started so I didn't have to put on an act! What's weird is that we were only in school a week or two when it happened but I remember it like we were there for half the year!

I was on a bus to school, so I didn't know what was happening.

When I got to school, the first class of the day was science with the Crazy Science TeacherTM. He basically let us loose pretty soon to do assignments or something. After a while, I wondered why few people were working. They were turning the radio to a news station, trying to get online, flipping through the TV channels, and so on. I heard a lot of commotion about planes crashing. The initial reports were often inaccurate, like planes crashing into the Empire State Building, White House, and US Capitol. It took a while to figure out what buildings were actually hit.

The rest of the day, a lot of teachers just let us watch the news. At least one insisted on holding class anyway. I was scared but not too scared, maybe because I was only 14 and lived at the time in a remote, rural area that wouldn't be a target.

I believe I was sitting in my family room at the time. I was home schooled then, so I certainly was not in any class. I clearly remember my dad calling from overseas, he was in Serbia at the time, asking how we were and if our uncle was ok. It turns out my uncle left the Pentagon a good 30 minutes before the plane struck. He worked in an office not too far from where the plane struck.

The next week or so was pure panic for my family as my dad and his co-workers hopped from country to country trying to get home. I think it was in Germany where my dad convinced an airline that they were urgently needed by the US Government and had to get home. They ended up sticking him on a cargo plane for livestock...

Yea, 9/11 hit us pretty hard, but luckily no one we knew was harmed.

I was in PE class, standing outside in a line in the middle of an empty parking lot. Suddenly, the principle came out with a walkie talkie and nervously whispered to the coach. We were just told that something had happened, but no details. I don't remember if they let us out early or not. On the way home, my mom explained what happened. It didn't really affect me because, at the time, I didn't even know there was a World Trade Center and the only thing I knew about New York City was "it has the Empire State Building". Of course, now I realize how tragic it was.

Was in eighth grade band class and at lunch before that, where some kid was like "Some plane hit one of the twin towers." Watched the news through a fuzzy broadcast channel on the tiny 1980s-era TVs they had in every room of the school in the band room, saw the second plane hit.

Most of my classes that day were practically canceled; every teacher postponed the lesson for the next school day.

I was at home, swapping through TV. Saw the news, first plane hit. Switched some more, second plane hit.

We had a silent minute in school the next day.

I was at school. Didn't affect me. At all.
Still doesn't. Why do we remember people's deaths, rather than their lives?
War is insanely ironic. "hay guys lets kill people for peace!"
