I'm not much of a Sonic fan but YAY FOR PLATFORMERS

After a while, the Mario series went pretty much 100% spinoffs and sports games I love platformers.

I really do

just take the physics from S&K and make some new levels and maybe shine up the graphics if you must

It's about damn time! I liked the one for Dreamcast, but that's the only good 3d one in my book. The rest are as follows: take 2 steps, scale a mountain slowly, feel like the game runs too slowly, pop in Sonic 1 2 or 3.

I predict the Wii will get a different version of the game with old-school graphics and gameplay. It will also get a higher Metacritic score than the 360/PS3 versions.

You're totally right, they never advertised Sonic based purely on the fact that he's the fastest thing alive or anything. He never got a move that let him go from a standstill to ridiculously fast, and he certainly never got powerups to make him even faster. Nope! Sonic's always been at his best in zones like Marble, or Labyrinth, or Metropolis (how 'bout those mantises? awesome, huh?).

Moving right along. I'll stay reasonably optimistic about this. Unleashed was fairly fun, and I'd imagine it's the same developers for this one.

That said, the universal opinion when it's released will almost certainly be that it's (at best) awful and (at worst) an abomination against all that is good and holy, so why bother worrying so early?

And yes, I'd like a Wii port; depending just how much they're trying to put into this, it'd probably be reasonable to hope for a somewhat downscaled version of it.

I think the whole speed thing was to draw gamers away from Mario and Nintendo and toward Sega's new system Like "Sonic is COOL and FAST, Mario is some old fat washed up plumber". My parents didn't buy either system when they were out (I eventually got a used SNES)

Which was fast as hell.

Keep in mind a level in Sonic 2 in the early stages took about a minute, maybe 2 if you did some exploring for a change. That is FAST compared to other games of its time, especially considering the scale of the levels for the Genesis Sonic games compared to the likes of Super Mario Bros. or Super Mario World.

Fast can be good, but there comes a point where it's too fast. Sonic 2/3/K had it just right.
