Did someone show you or did you pick up a controller and found the "addiction" on your own?

Do they still have those retro gaming systems by any chance?

Now that was fast, Anya

I think they have all but the INTV, but they're mostly PC gamers now.

My parents were into computer games for a long time. Original Zork, that kind of thing.

My older sister got an NES earlier than I can remember (maybe before I was born), so I grew up with it all around me.

Oh yeah, we have our Intellivision, too, but I don't think it works anymore. The remote, you know. And I barely remember it at all.

My parents were not really gamers, but they did have an Atari and an NES. As I got a tad bit older, my dad saw that I enjoyed video games, so he would try to get me the newest system that I wanted as either an Xmas gift or for my birthday.

My parents went PC so early, we never caught up with the consoles. Maybe because my dad loves the strategy genre, which seems to be more of a PC thing.

The only current-gen system I have is a DS My mom showed interest in the Wii, but didn't buy it.

I originally didn't like video games, I was scarred by being forced into playing Shadowgate when I was a wee lad. My dad actually got me into them, he was super good at Mario Bros. and I always wanted to be as good as him so the rest is history. And by history, I mean he regretted it later, he hates video games now! :specialed:

When I was 18, I threw out my games and systems, saying that I need to grow up and move on. HUGE MISTAKE! I play more now than before.

Oh man, I know what that's like (kinda).

I've quit gaming like ten times, but never actually physically prevented myself from continuing.

My mom took away my systems a few times when I was younger saying that I needed to do something productive and go outside, what I was doing was unhealthy, blah blah blah. I picked up a baby rattlesnake (I didn't know what it was, I just loved snakes) that I found under the car and ran into the house with it. My mom freaked out and put it in a Tupperware box and took it over to the landlord's. He killed it and identified it. My mother promptly gave back my SNES and we all lived happily ever after.

THE END

My parents had an NES and several games (including all of the Super Mario Bros. games and Startropics) when I was born. They also had a Game Genie which I used to frequently use to help me play though games when I was younger. I look back and see the Game Genie almost as training wheels or something like that which helped teach me how to play video games until eventually I didn't need it anymore and I was able to beat Megaman 2 without an infinite health cheat (and this was back when I was about 5...).

I'm surprised how well I remember things from back then .

I did the same thing with the GG I used to cheat like crazy with it in games like SMB3, but eventually I knew the levels so well and built up my strategy to the point at which I could beat the game without it. I would use an invincibility code and then challenge myself to not hit enemies, etc.

I didn't have videogames at home until my 5th birthday (when I got the NES), but I remember one of my uncles had a NES before that and I played on it a bit, that's probably where I started ... and before long, I started drawing stuff from NES games I played or watched (see here)

I pretty much grew up with a controller in my hands.
When I was three, my dad would play SNES while I held the second controller and "played" with him.

My mom's boyfriend. He's also the one that got me interested in golf... which seems like quite an accomplishment, given that I was 5 at the time.

My half-sister let me play games on her SNES. Aladdin, SMW, and Super Mario All Stars was all I needed back then.
