"A horrible person". That's what it says. "A horrible person."
We weren't even testing for that.

He's got a point regarding the "feverish race to possess the most possible," but I'm pretty sure that has crossed religious boundaries for quite some time now.

It linked to a page that was all in German, the article was entitled "Ab in Die Hölle!". Is this the right article?

And to think, if not for the whole "people are bad to the environment because they turn their back on God" thing, the speech would be good. Covered most of the right things (cooperation between nations, protecting limited resources, not making future generations pay for our poor decisions), and was even reasonably positive ("we can work together to solve this" rather than "you all ruined everything").
Oh well. A few wrong words lead to disaster; now the religious nutjobs can renew their hatred of everyone else, the anti-religious (or anti-Catholic) nutjobs can use it as fuel to dismiss the entire message (and moreover continue to blame the Catholics for ruining everything), and nothing will change. |

Yeah, that was kind of a big blunder on the Pope's part.

I actually see what he's saying there... People are being too quick to jump on one side when they forget to see the other... When he says it's the fault of atheism, he's saying the mentality of the atheist, (there is no God, therefore I can do what I please...) is leading to the destruction of the earth through waste of energy, goods, foods, etc or the wanting to have as much as possible. I believe we can all agree 'to a point' that is true. (I realize there are plenty of 'GREEN' atheists out there, but the mentality remains the same ultimately)
Within that statement though, is another message. He is also speaking to those who are faithful who also happen to fall for this mentality. I assure you there are many religious who act just like their atheist counterparts. BMF more or less nailed it earlier, but I beleive he didn't out right blame one side or the other there.
His speech was to a Catholic audience, therefore the point to be made was that Catholics need to reflect upon their duties to be 'stewards of the earth' or they will be as bad as those without faith who subscribe to a wasteful mentality.
