Someone on my local craigslist is selling a computer with the following specs:

Amd Phenom 9600 Quad-Core(4 Cpu's) @ 2.4ghz
4 GB Ram with Copper Cooling technology
160 GB HDD @ 10,000 RPM
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT OC 1GB Memory Video
CD-DVD Reader/Burner Drive
6 High Speed USB Ports

For 450 smackeroos. Think that's a good deal? Looking for a quick response of possible, I don't want anyone else snatching this potential beauty up.

Sounds like an amazing deal. It kicks the stuffing out of my laptop in every aspect, and mine was over five times as expensive.

A decently good deal. I just bought a PC with lesser specs for $500, off of newegg.

(specs of the lesser PC: AMD Athlon X2 @2.7Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, GeForce 9500 GT 1GB)

You are getting a really fast hard disk for some reason but it's kind of smallish in terms of capacity. o.o

It's better than mine for cheaper. YES! You won't be disappointed, that's for sure (unless it doesn't work, of course).

A computer that can play just about anything you throw at it. Insane HD speeds, Quad Core (Which isn't utalized for a ton of shit...yet. But it's good to be with the times), and four gigs of ram. All for 450 bucks?

If you got it. Fucking take that computer like your life depends on it.

E- I am a retard and did not read. AMD.

Very noice. If you can upgrade that Phenom to a 3.0ghz, you are set.

I got this computer, 500 for everything, including a 22 inch monitor, keyboard and 5 button mouse. Here's the fucking shit-stick, though. The motherfucker conveniently forgot to toss me the wireless hardware for the computer. So, in desperation, I pulled out my D-Link G510 Wireless card from my old desktop and stuck it in the new thing, downloaded the drivers and put them on a USB, and installed everything. Guess what: The new computer won't recognize the fact that I stuck the Wireless card into the motherboard, and the D-Link piece of shit won't connect to the internet.

I need advice. Should I just buy a new wireless card, a USB wireless dealy, or pressure the guy into giving me the Linksys hardware that I SHOULD have gotten?

You should certainly contact him for starters to try and get the wireless stuff. If that doesn't work, I recommend a USB wireless just because it will be easier to setup and will probably be more compatible.

Wireless? On a desktop?

I'd just grab a huge cheap cable and call it good, also pressure the guy into giving you the Linksys or buy one if he doesn't.

Having cables all across the apartment is a bit annoying, especially if you trip over said cables. Wireless makes sense for desktops too.

Personally I've only had very bad experiences with USB wireless stuff, but meh.

Eh, we used to have a cable go in an awkward place in our apartment but we just got a bigger one and stapled it to the ceiling, hehe.

Fixed.

Also, he's using the Linksys thing for his 360 (go fuckin' figure, that's what I get for not asking enough questions, I guess), like that makes any fucking sense. To top it off, the D-Link PCI card is so fucking old, I can't find compatible drivers for it. Not even on D-Link's own shitty website. What shitloaf this ordeal turned into. Great. Now I gotta go out to Best Buy, get a fucking wireless card, go home, install more bullshit, find out if it does or does not work...

If it DOES work, I have to download and fully patch World of Warcraft, and that's always a fun-filled joy ride of fuckery. If it does NOT work, then it has to be a problem with the expansion slots on the motherboard, in which case, I'll have to buy a new goddamned motherboard, and tear the living shit out the machine's guts, stick it all back together, and pray for the best. Fuck this shit. I shoulda bought an Alienware for 700 bucks more.

Don't worry, it's probably just the card itself, old hardware doesn't ever seem to work anymore, even with the most recent drivers. I had an old broadband card in my old pc that stopped working as soon as SP2 came out for XP. I went to the website on my friend's computer just to find out that they stopped making drivers for it 3 years prior.

Even if it is the motherboard you still got a pretty good deal for the stuff on top of it!

Well, I bought a Linksys wireless card today, and it wouldn't fit. So, I took some clippers and knocked off the two connector nubs, and presto. Works like a charm. I'm on it right now. Because it's a CRT monitor, it's really fucking dark; any ideas on how to brighten things up? It's already on max brightness, though, so... I dunno.

Is the monitor set to 0.7 volts, or 1.0 volts? If you can't find a setting like that, it's just old and dying.

You still got that money leftover when you thought you were buying that gaming computer? Buy a 22" Monitor off of newegg.

24" if you want to be pimping. 30" if you want to be an asshole to your buddies. (Don't recommend 30 because of resolution. That is, if you have a bad ass GC to handle it)

Agreed with Bitmap fully. If you don't like the look of the widescreen displays, too fucking bad, you'll get used to it and you'll never want to go back!

Well the thing is some graphics cards, from what I am reading, are not compatible with super huge monitors. Turning down the resolution will help your FPS tons, but it may not look good depending on how big your screen it. But I have no personal experience, so I can't really vouch much for this.

Well as long as your graphics card is not from last century, it should work fine.

I just wanted to mention; don't get a big screen if your graphics card can't handle the resolution.

Every LCD screen I've seen looks terrible and blurry when not on its native resolution. Trust me, do yourself a favour and only get a screen which you can run at native resolution - it looks amazingly sharp. 3D games look great (although I haven't played that many). After playing SMG and MKWii on an emulator I just can't go back to playing them on an old SDTV.
