I was thinking of getting a retro console for my room and I've been looking at the famicom and twin famicom although I'm wondering if there's something else. Something that I have not yet played but with enough support so that finding a few solid titles to play wouldn't be too difficult. Any ideas?(I was born in '87 so I've played all the mainstream consoles except for Atari)

What about Turbo Grafx 16/Pc Engine? And after seeing Guru Larry and Benzaie's videos, I was thinking about the Amstrad CPC and Atari ST..

The TurboGrafx 16 is a great console although if you're willing to spend a bit of extra money I would highly recommend buying a Turbo Duo. It plays both TurboGrafx 16 Cards and TurboGrafx CD games which is good as there are some really good games for the TurboGrafx CD (Lords of Thunder is one of them if you're into that kind of game). You could also buy a PC Engine as there are some really great games for it that were never released for the TurboGrafx 16. Keep in mind though that PC Engine games (especially the PC Enigne exclusive ones) can be expensive or hard to find.

Good Luck .

Being a huge ST fan myself, I can back you up on the fact that you won't regret the ST.

CPC... It's fun to screw with sometimes, but I'd rather get an ST myself.

Just make sure it's an STe... they're far more powerful than the original ST.

Get an SNES. You won't regret that. It has great games of every genre, good multiplayer, and they aren't hard to come by at all.

I should check out some ST games, actually... that and Amiga stuff.

Granted, I don't know how hard it is to grab an Amiga these days, but some of the stuff on there... wow. Definitely ahead of its time.

Definitely.
This would be my pick.

Yeah, I'd personally go for an SNES. Though, I'd get two or three controllers. They're durable, but the rubber innards of the buttons tend to wear down after years of heavy use, and I have yet to find any suitable replacement for those things so I wouldn't have to get another one.

Huh...well...my SFC controllers are still in top working order after...many, many years (we got them not too long after launch)...well, I suppose it depends on how intense you play too. Button-mashing games will wear them down much faster than say, a sidescroller where you're basically holding the directional most of the time... I would think any Killer Instinct player has worn many a controller

So can a real SNES, you know honestly would not bother with a duo, especially since both SNES and NES systems are not hard to come by cheap these days...the duo has been known to have emulation problems especially with sound and while accurate enough just isn't worth it when the real thing does it...well, the way it was meant to.

Exactly what Erika said, Famiclones are horrible for sound and have problems across the board with mappers and visual artifacts. Say no to clones!

For instance, the FC Twin, the NES/SNES clone which is extremely popular and considered one of the best clones, has the following incompatibilities:
NES
---
After Burner
Battletoads (the game hangs at the second level, however, if warps are used, this is passable and the rest of the game works perfect)
Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (works on FC Dual and Retro Duo System)
Cheetahmen II
Challenge of the Dragon
Crystal Mines
Dragon Warrior II
Ducktales (Game works, but won't respond to the B button)
Gemfire
Laser Invasion
L'Empereur
Paperboy
Pipe Dream
Mad Max
The Krion Conquest
Uncharted Waters
Gauntlet (Tengen version)

SNES
---
BatterUP
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - The S-DD1 chip does not function. (Disputed.) (Compatible with Retro Duo system)
Star Ocean - Another S-DD1 dependent title.
Kirby Super Star - Due to Nintendo SA-1 Coprocessor built (disputed) into the Cartridge (Compatible with Retro Duo system)
Kirby's Dreamland 3 - Another title with the Nintendo SA-1 chip (disputed)
Super Scope 6 - Gun will work but you can not use controller it wont let two player mode work on Terminator: Arcade, Metal Combat, etc.
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - Everything works up until the 3rd level boss which is incorrectly invisible.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Due to Nintendo SA-1 Coprocessor built (disputed) into the Cartridge
Dragon Quest I & II - Another title that doesn't work with the FC Twin, may possibly be related to the same reasons that Dragon Warrior 2 for the NES doesn't work
Doraemon - Nobita to Yosei no Kuni - The over world map doesn't appear, just the sprites appear.
Dragon Quest III
Terranigma - The game has a special lockout chip which prevents use on famiclones

And who knows what else doesn't work/work right...

FC Twin is really not as compatible as the retro duo. They're not the same, don't worry. I've ordered ganbare goemon 3(+box and manual) and super bonk 2 for it. yay ebay. Any other suggestions? Especially for super famicom and famicom imports?
