| It's like a super power. You know, like Super Strength for those who need to ride their bicycle uphill, or Super Smell for determining when every pizza in the dormatory is cooked thoroughly... But this, this is Super Forgetting!
The premise is that you can voluntarily and permanently forget the most recent arbitrary amount of time from your memories. While this can be useful to un-experience something (like seeing this caricature of a forum personality), it can also provide a sort of way to lurch forwards in time when you don't feel like waiting. So you've got a 3-hour car ride? Just forget it when you're done and it's like you pull out of your driveway and into your destination! Now, here's the thing: you'll never get those memories back. While you can always decide whether or not you'll want to forget something, the fact remains that if you do, that's time that you'll never see again... and time is limited, at least in the long run. If you go through your life skipping over all the boring stuff, how much of it would you bypass in the end? Furthermore, if you did have such an ability to forget, would you use it, or would you find ways to spend your time wisely knowing that you had the option to erase said time from your memories for good? How would your decisions be affected if you had Super Forgetting? Would you use it at all? How would you use it if you did? On a side note, it's Monday, and Sunday is a long time from now! |
