The mentality became, "I want to have my own forum", and so people would continually create many small forums with 2-3 of their friends, abandon the original forum, and then abandon their new forum after it went dead (typically in a week or even less).

I'm curious - why wouldn't they go back to the original forum if they really liked forums that much? Are they just nomadic, joining 30 or so forums and only posting on 2 of them? Or is it just a lack of attention span?
