The fact that it's nearly impossible (sometimes just impossible) beforehand, the fact that not everybody goes into that fight with either past experience or a guide at hand, and the fact that you only get one shot per life persuades me to think that the boss is still a legitimate source of frustration, despite that fact.

Nine-Ball from the original Armored Core.

You make your way through, and you think you're safe.

WRONG

Nine-ball appears in a massive tower area, made to make you overheat trying to fly up. Then he flies down from nowhere, yells '...DESTROY' over and over again, while relentlessly attacking you with power levels in excess of anything YOU can get. He never overheats, never runs out of ammo, he just is relentless.

Kaiser Sigma from MMX3 is close to this as well. He's invincible except for a spot so tiny that it requires luck, not skill, to hit it, and that's even with all the armor abilities and firing charged shots with the special uber death thing.

Sonic Unleashed's boss isn't even a boss, just a bunch of QTEs and button mashing, not to mention some really boring sequences. And another thing I won't spoil which is just STUPID and inexplicably forces you to learn what is essentially a new game mode with no practice.

The final boss in Sonic Blast (Game Gear) I have only encountered via a demo in Sonic Gems Collection, but it's freakin' stupid. You get 99 rings, and it basically covers 99% of the screen with sawblades. Naturally, it takes about 99 hits to destroy--thus even if you win, it's asinine, as you're losing tons of rings and it's just pure button mashing yet again.

The final boss in Super Mario Sunshine is garbage, in that it dies from about 3-4 easy to make hits, and is mind-numbingly stupid. Thus, unlike the epic ending of SM64 or Galaxy, all you get is failure and boredom. X_x

Mogenar has already been mentioned, but I too have run out of HP right before finishing him off. GRRRR.

Dr. Machino from Awesome Possum is a cheating jerk, such that when fighting him you ask 'How could children beat this game?' He does the following:
* Shoot at you with a rocket launcher (3/4 at a time)
* Punch at you with an extending punching bag
* Shoot fire
* Run around like a maniac on speed
* Back away every time you try to stomp on him
He takes easily 10 minutes to kill, even with savestates.

Perfect Cell in DBZ Budokai 2 or whatever it was for the Gamecube also sucks. I killed him just by kicking him in the face over and over again. I was amazed when the credits appeared, and went 'What? Was it really that easy?'

Star fox Adventures is on the list for the lack of General Scales as a boss, even though he was the person everyone wanted to kill, or at least maim. Seems he escaped entirely, thanks to the annoying kill-stealing Andross. Whom you then didn't even get to kill anyway. What gives? Stupid Falco.

There was this jerk in Pokemon Stadium 2 which prevented me from getting a surfing Pikachu--even though I had about 6 Mewtwos. He used a Mew with wrap and thunder wave. Since it was hideous broken, I had no chance. It was so very stupid. Although in retrospect, a good Tyrannitar or Rare-candied Sandslash woulda kicked his butt...

DK64 was a jerk for preventing me from getting to the Final Boss. How? It made me play the original Donkey Kong, which I could never defeat. Thus, I never saw the ending, and traded it away out of frustration.

Oh, your first time through? No question. It is possible to beat Buebeam Trap with less than 7 bombs, but that does take skill and/or luck.

I *think* that any walls you destroy during the fight stay destroyed if you die and make it back there on your next life, no? Been a while but if so, that *does* make things a little more forgiving. (Not on a continue, obviously.)

De Rol Le itself, in my opinion, is not that hard if you're properly equipped and/or leveled. (Admittedly, I wasn't when I first attempted to beat him, and the fight took a looooooong time..)

But the offline quest in PSO v1/v2 (DC/PC versions) where you had to fight him together with that severely underleveled scientist who had no combat skills whatsoever? That's bullshit. You couldn't revive him either, so once he's dead (and it wouldn't take long), you immediately failed the mission.

Luckily, they fixed this in future versions (he just plays dead during the entire fight)

Err, yeah I forgot to mention that's what I was thinking of. Also speedruns suck when you have to fight him, not even Dark Falz is that bad.
