We all have our own boss fights that are absolute bullshit. What say you Jul?

As for me. It has to be from the series SaGa Frontier. One of my all time favorite RPG's ever comes close to bullshit Boss fights.

Now, I hate to post spoilers. So I will say this right now. If you never played this game before. You are missing out on such an amazing game. So...yeah, play this.

Now, on Blue's quest. You have to fight the demon of hell...

Blue's final boss fight imo is so much bullshit. According to Wikipedia, they had to cut this part out for the english translation because it could not fit with the final story. But the boss at the end has a program that never dies.

<object width="425" height="344"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LzqlQ34fjSI&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Yeah. Way to go.

I find this story and the boss it's own bullshit because it ends in suck. Yep. SUCK.

Ever had to fight a boss that is bullshit? Post it here.

Now with 60% more chance of spontaneous combustion.
----------------------------
So I am playing Summon Night: LadleSwordcraft Story

And there's this boss battle that I barely win... Ok.

Then immediatelly after this eldritch abomination appears out of nowhere and is like a huge wall of death and kills me in two hits.

Probably it isn't really that hard, but I really didn't see it coming and was way underleveled...

Ugh, I'm right there with you, Bitmap. Blue's "ending" is the most unsatisfying ending ever created. At least Red had a pretty good story to compensate. Another would be when I was playing as Emelia and a random endgame bossfight occurred and whooped my sorry ass.

Past SaGa Frontier, Armored Core: For Answer made me want to pull my teeth out when you had to fight 4 other Nexts. On Normal, you get help (he draws some of their fire for a bit before backing off) but on Hard, they all gang-rush you and make you cry after your "super awesome undefeatable perfect Next" made every other level it's bitch.

The only bullshit boss fight I can remember in recent personal history is the boss battle to become a Platinum Tamer in Digimon World Dawn/Dusk. You have in-training monsters and ImperialdramonPM against you. Sounds easy, but they all have ridiculously high stats and the first time I fought them I was basically wiped out in 3 minutes (2 of them trying to figure out my next move). Also, one of them uses a freaking lullaby attack that puts all of my active party to sleep, and I get pummeled therein. I think it took me a dozen tries, training my six strongest Digimon by leaps and bounds, and I still go down to one or two of my party still standing. And what's more bullshit is the Silver Tamer battle had three megas, with me thinking "Oh shit, these are powerful, there's no way I can beat them." then five minutes later "Oh shit, THESE are powerful?"

I'm just saying the Platinum Tamer battle was really more of a screw you [url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BossInMookClothing[/url]boss in mook's clothing-ish battle. Except in a boss room.

What the poster above me said is a pain in the ass. I have yet to beat it.

However... I know something that's far more bullshit.

Boost Guardian in metroid prime 2. (Even more so on hard mode)
I just can't do it. I had to sequence break the game (on hard mode) to get past him and pick up some more upgrades before I challenged him. I did even beat the two bosses after him before I did beat him. V_v
(Grapple guardian and that alpha fish thingy.)

DAMN YOU BOOST GUARDIAN, DAMN YOOOOOOOUUUU!!!!

The thing I love about Blue's quest is that you are THE mage. You can learn every type of magic known in the game at the top of the hat. Even Time magic, which whoops so much ass it isn't even funny. Pair him up with some ultimate sword moves, and finish it off with Tower. Easily kills anything in the game, even the earth dragon.

Blue's quest is the most fun. But the ending sucks so much ass it isn't even funny. I remember countless battles where I was whooping so much ass with him alone, and here comes this boss that can't die.

Red was alright I suppose. I never did like the Alkizer system all that much.

Lute was fucking laughable to me. You can fight the final boss within seconds of the quest if you wanted to. And GreatMond isn't even that hard.

Lute was the first one that I tried in the game (I'm a fan of bards). This is the perfect contrary to the most bullshit boss fight ever, this one was an embarrassment.

This thread: [trope]ThatOneBoss[/trope]

Bosses I've had trouble with? Biolizard. Fuck him. Of course, Sonic games are notorious for having easier-than-the-boss-before-them last bosses. That's the only one I can think of at the moment.

@Green-Kirby: I seem to have an easy time with Boost Guardian. He isn't THAT hard. I also had an easy time with Spider Ball Guardian. Everyone seems to have a tough time with him

Spider Guardian is more of a puzzle. Plus he was a joke if you ask me.
The problem with Boost guardian is that he is so hard to avoid him when he boosts around. On top of that you have to get close and bomb him quite a few times before he goes up into the shape where you can deal damage to him again.
:E

Also, keep in mind that this was on hard mode. He is easier on normal.

Still, even on normal, I hear people complain about him a lot. I just abused smashing the pillars for HP and killed him.

Bowser from SMB 3. I don't know exactly what you mean by "absolute bullshit" but that fight is too easy. A case of some appropriately difficult stages followed by an overly easy final boss.

I think of bullshit in this context as referring to TERRIBLE GAME DESIGN rather than difficulty, so...

Boost Guardian is pretty crazy hard on Hard mode, but for straight up bullshit in boss fights I'd have to go with Mogenar, the statue boss in prime 3. You know the one, he has these red balls that constantly heal, are only rarely open to attack, and can only be damaged by the weapon that hurts you to use.

god damn it's not even that HARD it's just so incredibly bullshit. Took me forever the first time and I ran out of hp to use hyper mode with before I could kill him. Durrrrrrrr. Worst reason to lose. I guess what I mean by bullshit is hard for the wrong reasons, like bugs or tedium.

The Biolizard was pretty bullshit, just because almost every time you take damage it's from a glitch or a basically random piece of bullshit. The shadow balls have the worst collision detection I've ever seen in a 3d game and the red bubbles are randomly somewhere between trivial and impossible. Then the last hit is just 100% gamble on being able to control yourself in the safety net, which had the least controllable controls ever.

Last boss of Sonic Heroes was pretty bullshit. "Regular attacks are useless now! Attack it using TEAM BLAST!"

You know, really that's just a subset of incredibly bullshit bosses where the control scheme is completely different from the rest of the game, or some added gimmick makes everything you learned previously completely irrelevant. It's gotta be really well done to be non-terrible, and it's usually not.

Like... End boss of Chrono Cross, where you have to use the colors in the right order? forget that noise. But the Kirby endboss formula with the flying and the star rod was consistently ok with me; maybe because it fits within the framework of what the game was already about, i.e., figure out how to use an attack shaped like this to do damage to things. Whereas Sonic Heroes boss fights were about trying to stay in range to use your level 3 attacks, and the last one was about building up for team blast instead... it's like the final exam for a physics class consisted entirely of chemistry questions.

Also Fire Emblem games have super bullshit endbosses. That system is great for tactical combat but not so much for 1v1 or lots v1 battles. I don't think you can even beat Path of Radiance without giving Ike the Aether skill, because even at max stats only the Aether procs can save you against the ridiculous final boss. It may be hard but it's not fun and it has nothing to do with the skills you've practiced for the entire game.

Uhm, also Demyx from Kingdom Hearts II. Dance, water, dance! Do the luck-based action command right in 10 seconds or lose the game for - wait for it - absolutely no reason!

Yeah I guess I'm out of examples.

But maybe you guys all meant really hard bosses, in which case, terribly sorry and I'll come up with another list later?

The final hazard was either ridiculously easy or BUBBLES AND LASERS IN YOUR FACE (as in, the camera), making it easy to mistime a hit and be thrown a kilometer away.

For real. Trying to figure out where the lasers are in relation to you is pretty terrible; something about the texture on the laser or its sweep pattern or SOMEthing really screws up my depth perception.

Most of the bosses in that game suffered from sloppy design, I think. Probably the best one is the Knuckles/Rouge duel because an optimal strategy approximates pretty well what SHOULD be an optimal strategy given the move sets of the characters. The Sonic/Shadow battles are just silly and we don't talk about the mech parts of that game.

Without a doubt, it's Yogg-Saron with the assistance of none of the Keepers of Ulduar in World of Warcraft. It's the most ridiculously tuned and difficult boss encounter in that game to date and took nearly 3 months of dedication before it was finally defeated for the first time. Compare that to all of the other bosses in the game so far, which have all been defeated the day they were released.

The encounter required ridiculous coordination and execution. Most people aren't even capable of a fraction of that

Yeah, but it sure was satisfying not seeing ImperialdramonPM saying I'm still an awful tamer.

By the way, I'm thinking of getting a Nintendo USB WiFi connector so I can actually get on the internet. Can I has your fwend code?
