So a new TRON movie is in the works...

You can see the video here! (No Embed for some reason)

I'm not sure if this is just a joke or some thing... but the trailer looks kinda awesome.

Maybe that's because the first Tron came out in 1982. Hard to watch it today and not laugh.

Legacy looks pretty spiffy and I like the dark touch that they're bringing to it.

Saw the preview in the theatres, and spent a good ten minutes explaining to my friend what Tron was.

It'll probably be a hit or miss film for me. Time will tell. It looks decent, if anything.

Well, it'll be neat I think, but it also just seems too typical Hollywood action/sci-fi movie.

I've been waiting for this movie for years, especially since Tron 2.0: Killer App came out for the original Xbox. It featured THE INTERNET, cyberninjas, a sniper rifle called the LOL, and Super Light Cycles designed by Syd Mead. It fucking rocked. I picked up the PC version a while back and it's still excellent.

Seeing their faces lit up inside those helmets looks a little strange to me, but it has me interested. I can't wait to see what the ship/drone/enemy designs look like in this one.

I was trolled by this. But I won't be an ass.

I at least see what you mean. But Tron was a masterpiece to me. Had a good story, good characters, and was just absolutely amazing for it's time! (This and Robocop were my all-time favorite movies back in these days.)

Hell, Jeff Bridges was in this movie. And he is a great actor! (Loved him in Starman, oh my lord)

This looks sweet, but I wonder how interesting Disney can make it...
Now, if they sold the rights to Quentin Tarantino, THEN we'd have a real interesting sequel. Looks like The Dude's going to be the antagonist...

As a 3d modeler now, believe me, it is a lot more impressive looking back. So much stuff to do by hand. Code. 3d by math and code.

I enjoyed it at the midnight release. It's visually immersive and spectacular and the score by Daft Punk is actually incredible (And uses plenty of noise channel!). The only thing I had a problem with the film is that the story is sometimes cliché and could have been handled slightly better. Some things are left unexplained, which is okay, but it's somewhat annoying to have to pen in your own reasons for things. However, it does manage to deliver a good message about perfection and Mans thirst for it. If you aren't reading the spoilers, I assure you it's plenty of unanswered questions that really needed to be touched upon.

Visual and audio nods to classic sci-fi/gaming made me excited.

The thing that most people aren't understanding is that the movie takes place around 20 years after the original. The Grid, as well as movies in general, has evolved. Things are different, so the movie itself is different. Average people would rather watch something that looks nice than have something that tells an epic story, this is obvious with the way box offices handle movies now (Hello, Scott Pilgrim vs the Expendables). They handled the story and atmosphere this way, which is a nice touch. The movie is about how things have changed so dramatically in the Grid as well as the real world, so expectedly the lightcycles can now turn freely and other new rules apply to the Grid. These differences are causing some fans of the original to bash the movie, but they're just not looking at it in the intended light.

I would give it a solid 8/10. It's unfortunate to hear that behind the scenes, the movie was a disaster. The director was a first time movie director who was responsible for the famous Gears of War "Mad World" commercial, but he ended up creating something awful and Disney brought in Pixar to fix the movie and reshoot tons of it. This led to Disney's huge budget movie becoming something unfortunately not as great as it could have been.

Me and my dad are going to see this on Tuesday. Roughly £10 all together for Premium front row seats with the aisle in front to stretch our legs out, and 3D glasses that we get to keep. This is gonna be so awesome.

I thought it sucked. I actually fell asleep during certain moments.

Also a HUGE waste seeing it in 3D. Majority of the movie, I had the glasses off.

Best part of the movie was Daft Punk.

Probably seeing this tomorrow. Debating whether to see it in 2D or 3D. I saw Narnia in 3D and thought it was a complete waste because the 3D wasn't done well at all and the colors actually looked muted with the glasses on. If that's the way this is, then I'm sticking with 2D. Especially when I'll probably wind up seeing this at a shitty theater.

Edit: Just got back from seeing this. Decided on seeing it in plain 2D, but got fed up with my shitty ass theater and saw it in IMAX 3D instead so I'd finally get some decent sound for once. Of course, since I went to the good theater with the IMAX, the movie was jam packed and I had to sit in the second row. My neck is killing me now, but god damn I forgot how awesome IMAX is!

Anyway yes, 3D is a complete waste of money because half of the movie is in 2D WTF?! When I saw that message at the beginning I was like "oh shit, that's not a good sign when the movie is telling you that it sucks in advance". That said though, I thoroughly enjoyed this! I was just expecting an eye candy movie, but it actually dealt with some interesting issues such as the search for perfection, the nature of reality and corruption, and I even saw some theological allusions. It does feel a little slow though, so I can see if this isn't your type of film that your might get pretty bored.

I've never seen the original Tron, but now I want to watch it! Regarding this film though, I pretty much agree with everything Sails said. My main quibble though isn't the unanswered questions (I hope to get more satisfaction from a second viewing), but the lack of character development, and underuse of the original characters. Now like I said, I never saw the original Tron, but it seems to me that for a sequel to Tron, it could have made more use of

All in all though, I'm glad I saw this, and the Daft Punk music is awesome!

Saw the movie opening night. The story picks up the semi-cliffhanger ending of the first movie, where Sam is never able to see his dad, because he is part of the grid and Clu taking over trying to and eventually succeeding in making it almost perfect. What Clu needs to realize is that everything has flaws and overall, nothing can be perfect. There's tons of fan service for those who enjoyed the first film such as myself. The fact that the original Tron cabinet arcade makes an appearance was all I really needed. The opening scene taking place in the 80's is where all that really is. By the way, Apple SE in Sam's room, nice touch.

Well opposed to the first movie, essentially just being the base of the grid, this movie literally has a whole world that Clu built upon. It really is cool looking. I don't want to spoil anything else, but let me just say that the first light cycle battle is epic.

I do have a few gripes with the films though. First of all, I payed 15 bucks to see it in 3D, and more than 80% seemed 2D. Like Nemesis said, there is a message in the opening that says that some scenes were filmed in 2D. Everyone in the theatre groaned in agony at that, lol. Now what I came to learn is that like 50% was shot in 2D, because during the club scene I took off my 3D glasses for a moment and noticed the layering of the screen images was in fact 3D, though you'd barely notice it. Speaking of that scene, the two DJs, who keep switching tracks based on the moods of what was happening in the scene which was pretty entertaining, are named Daft Punk. Daft Punk composed the entire soundtrack for the film and did a fantastic job. I'm not really a big fan of them, but they stepped out of their element a bit on this one, and I really enjoyed it; so much so that I bought the soundtrack.

But the only other gripe I had was the fact that Tron, yeah you know Tron? was only in the movie for about twoish scenes, and you never see his face. Though that didn't really disappoint me because this movie, despite the title, isn't about Tron, it's about Flynn, Sam, Clu, and Quorra. I really liked the character of Quorra. She has lots of screen time and character development. She is the last ISO alive on the grid and is Flynn's protege of sorts and is taught the ways of life outside of the grid. She is a great actress and is used to help move the story forward in most scenes she is in. Not to mention she's pretty hot. ;) Oh come on you agree with me.

Overall it's a pretty good movie even if you haven't seen the first movie. It really isn't even required to see considering the bulk that needs to be explained for this movie to work is explained in the opening. Though there is really no mention of the master control program, the main villain of the first movie. At least I thought he was. Definitely worth checking out, especially because there are very little good movies out at the moment, other than Black Swan (which is definitely not for everyone) and the new Harry Potter movie. Now I must mention that there are more sequels planned, so if you felt that some characters weren't developed enough, there's more in the works. It is still solid though.
