They both suck ass. Try Avast! or use my personal favorite, the Common Sense Shield.

Neither. Try Avast!, it's free, and better.

I'm also using Avg at the moment. The other thing I use to scan is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

I used to use AVG, and it worked wonderfully. Then, at some point... it just stopped being useful. That's when I switched to Avast!, at least until it started bugging us with the DEMO WILL EXPIRE stuff.

Whatever you choose, I recommend getting Spybot Search & Destroy to supplement it.

When you install Avast!, you get a 60 day demo license. Upgrading that to a year requires putting in your email onto their website for a key. Use mailinator.com if you're afraid of teh spamz.

Other than having to update that once a year (good enough, keeps it updated) it's completely free and nagless. I've been running it on all the computers I'm tasked with upkeeping and have had no problems.

Free. As stated, you get the 1-year license by entering your email on the site, then check the email for the license key.

Zone Alarm will do everything for computer security, even virus protection, and it does it well. Doesn't hurt to have free programs like Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes, our family has been using ZA since at least 2000, and there hasn't been any sort of major gripe about it (sometimes it'll cause a full screen game to minimize just to say something stupid, but that's about it).

Not sure if you want to pay for it, though, but it sure is worth it.

jumping on the 'AVG is garbage' train. it's a pain to completely remove from your computer too. I switched to Avast! a while ago and haven't looked back.

Zonealarm is a bit junky, and has sort have begun to lean on the 'false positive' train. You're better off with Avast! than Zonealarm.

If you're looking for a paid solution though, I've had a good experience with Kaspersky's suite, at least their Windows 7 tech preview version. It occasionally bugs me to update the definitions just like any other scanner but so far it has had virtually zero impact on system performance and it does pick up quite a few things. The problem is that it's one of the more expensive security suites around, so I guess you get what you pay for. The Windows 7 tech preview is free though as long as you're running the beta or RC of Windows 7.

We weren't even testing for that.

I know of Avira Antivir. It displays an ad once every day but that other than that it's free. You might want to try it out.

I always thought Bitdefender was pretty good, or if you want to pay money, Nod32. I prefer avast to either of them though.

This. Avast is great; I run it and have never had any issues. Getting a new key once a year isn't a hassle for me. I've never received a single email from them after having registered - just searched my Gmail inbox to confirm that. The only emails I have are the registration keys for the program.
