Since he was arrested after an investigation from the Electronic Software Association - serious stuff - the chances of him having modded the consoles just so he could play Super Dimensional Fortress Macross on the PS2 seem slim.

No real details yet so let's see... I mean, it could be something where the ESA are being pricks and it could be something where the guy was dumb enough to be offering console modding for a premium through a website using his own home address. :\

My guess is that he was making a profit off of it by having a business on modding consoles. That would probably be the reason for the arrest and jailtime, although I agree that it's a very harsh punishment.

He had to have been doing something else with the modding other than simple piracy. I mean, ESA got involved, he's doing jailtime, etc. How do they even find you? Yeah there must be things that aren't being said here.
