oh NO

This could kill off one of the main reasons people use OO at all (aside from the price, which you really can't beat.) If they do do this, I hope they at least make it optional. I have years of muscle memory for working with older versions of MS Office and with OpenOffice and when MS changed the keyboard shortcuts it completely ruined everything. >.<

Death to the ribbon. If they do this, I'll just use an old version of OO.org and never update.

You know, once you get used to it, I think the ribbon is actually more efficient. I can barely stand to use the older versions anymore. It's still full of other pet peeves though. Luckily, I rarely need to use an office application.

Well, good going, OOo developers. You just managed to make your crappy MS Office clone even crappier.
Oh well. More reason for me to stick with Office 2003 even as Office 2010 is coming up and OOo 3.0 is out. Shit is usable there and it'll always be that way.

Until some random Windows upgrade suddenly makes it stop working "on accident" and MS never fixes it.

Considering that last year in school I had a course where a big chunk of it was learning how to use Microsoft Word 2007 (even though I already knew how to use it) I didn't really have a choice but to get used to the ribbon interface. Even before I took that course the ribbon never really bothered me, it would be good if it was optional though for those who liked the old design.

What is it with software developers and getting rid of something that works and people like? I mean, look at Paint. The version on Windows 95 is practically the same version that was on Vista. Because it worked and people were used to its interface (even if it was awful). But now, because someone got the idea that all new software has to have THE RIBBON, it has to be programmed in to something as stupid as paint.

Point is, I would rather have a hundred tiny icons in toolbars than a ribbon. I've gotten used to Office 07 because I had to, but that still doesn't mean I like it. I hope OO doesn't do the same thing, since they should be their own independent software, not just an exact clone of MO.

Ugh, it seems with each new version of windows they make it even more grandma-proof, which is funny because my grandma knows more about computers than your average high-school "techie".

I think I might stick with Vista for a while.

QFT!

I still use office 03 as it's so much easier to use.

I can understand wanting to upgrade to a new interface if it's good. But the good damn ribbon thing is stupid and does not work very well at all!

What's next, VB will be using ribbons too? V_v

Next thing you know, Microsoft will fine a way to work that ribbon into IE. If one of the independent browsers (FF/Chrome) doesn't do it first. Then again, the FF4 interface can't get any worse, can it?

It could have a ribbon, no normal file/edit menu, and also have tabs on top.

Chrome will likely do it first
