I want to play Persona 4, 3 on my PS3. I have heard that you can mod the Wii using an emulator so will the same apply to the PS3?
Another question: If you do mod it and need to take it into the store to get it fixed will you be arrested?

If you're talking about being able to use your PS3 for emulation or other OSes to do the job, specifically Yellow Dog Linux, then it's fine. In fact, it's pretty much promoted by the PS3 to do so, since all you really have to do is use the format utility and tell it whether or not you want 10 GB of data to go to the secondary OS or 10 GB of data to go to the PS3 data.

As for modding and having it fixed I'm pretty sure the MODDING is legal and the emulation is and anything else you do with it but the ROMs on your system fall into that grey area...

It is of note that there isn't a way to run PS2 backup games on your PS3 without the emotion engine through the USBLoader homebrew. Also, there isn't any scene for PS3 modding anyways, because Linux is already available and that's what usually opens the gateway to modding and piracy.

Also, not sure what you mean by "mod the Wii using an emulator" because an emulator is not what you use to mod a system.

As far as I know, he has a PS3 that has that capability.

I believe there is something on PSN about PS2 saves that might be necessary, however. I'm not sure - I've never dealt with it...but as far as I know, if you have such a console, it should just be a matter of sliding in the PS2 disc and going from there...it shouldn't really require you to have another OS to do it.

Ah, I probably should have used better diction in my post, but truth be told I just started learning about all these thing-a-mid-gigs, emulators, and other assorted computer jargon recently so a little misinformation is to be expected.

Yeah, all of this sudden PS3 modding talk came from him seeing my modded Wii last night. Basically he's wondering if there's a way for him to play burned ISOs of games on the PS3 like you can do with Wii. Though I'd think that would be unlikely since the PS3 disks are blu-ray disks (right?) and obviously you can't use standard DVDs then.

Yea, Sony's got piracy well-wrangled as far as I know for the PS3. It isn't like the PS2 where you can mod it the way you're thinking.

That's where we're headed then...no you'd need a modded PS2 or PCSX2 running on a decent system for what you're looking for.

No I am afraid you don't understand...I just reformatted my PS3 hard-drive to make room for an OS and my back up data with all my save info shat itself....yeah....
