I don't really miss the -20 to -40F wind chills from Illinois when it came down to the cold of winter. You get around Chicago and the vicinity and you'll experience some of the coldest weather you can get at times thanks to the Great Lakes and lake-effect snow and conditions.

Course you go around Montana, Minnesota and then on up to Canada and you've got freezer geezers...but it does have a remarkable range of temperature there. It can get as cold as Canada and as hot as Bermuda if you give it the chance. At least down here it's generally a mild winter and then a fierce hot summer that I'm already mostly used to anyways (but don't really like at all).

People on the phone at work are surprised when I tell them I'm from Canada and we have 80-90F temperatures.

That's because we all live in igloos and kill seals for clothing and food, yes.

Yeah, seeing Southern California people in icy territory is funny.

...Yes, I am from Southern California myself, but I had the unfair advantage of ice skating knowledge--so I didn't go flying when I got my first real chance to walk through snow.

It was a slippery time, though.

To be fair, they have the right to bitch a little bit.

From what I've heard, the worst is when we northerners go to someplace nice (say, California or Florida or Cuba) for a week and then come back here in the middle of winter. Can we say "system shock"?
