Truthfully, the only reason there was no choice before was due to the untimely demise of poor old Netscape. Firefox just picked up the pieces.

Then, in recent years, Opera decided they couldn't make money charging people and joined in.

It's a nice time now though. There's finally many valid choices that are not IE.
