Same goes for programs, I guess. Excluding services, anti-virus and stuff like that:
See, if I could post from work, I could have said something along the lines of...
- 3 IE windows (one for credit card account viewing, one for accounts to be reviewed, one for a time zone map)
- 1 TSYS window
- Shortcut toolbar/window
- Notepad
But right now, I can only say I have two Firefox windows, Pidgin and mIRC. Pity.

That's it. I close a program if I don't need to keep it running/am not using it because having too many programs open eats a lot of RAM, which I really don't have a lot of to spare (this computer is bad/old).
I could have a bunch of chat programs open, but I stopped using them as often as I used to. Have them on my phone now. But it takes up a lot of the battery (as well as going online) so as of late, I've had them turned off.
I have to say that Live Messenger is the worst. I keep getting spam IMs.
Oh yea, almost all the time. The only reason why I use MSN's IM service is because I know one person on there that I chat to sometimes. But then I get these damn IMs which makes me want to close the program right away.
-Firefox
-iTunes
-Lego Digital Designer (I swear to gawd, if you're snickering, I'll gut you!)
-X-Chat (IRC Client)
-OS X Mail
-Adium (MSN Client for OS X)
And.. that's pretty much me the whole time I'm on a computer
