I play another iphone mmo that does the same thing. the game itself is free, and then there are like ten different packages of points you can purchase through the app store for exclusive in-game items. I don't see how this is any worse than shelling out cash for special world of warcraft armor, or a neopets popsicle, or something like that. it's also not something to get worked up over apple about.

I think it's more the "50 different apps that are actually just points", nobody would have a problem if they just condensed it to one or something.

There's like ... the in-app purchase feature now. Can't they have all these "points" apps cleaned up? >.< (though Apple's brilliant team of app store police would probably have to do it for them)

If not, then code some other in-app method of doing things instead of spamming up the damn store, kthx

I didn't realize there was an in-app purchase feature, that would certainly make these packages unnecessary.

I don't know how many of you are iphone users, but the thing is, the screenshots provided in the first post are just search results of the developers of these apps. they have little presence when you're just browsing the store. they're very unpopular and are basically only for people who are seeking them.
actually, I just clicked the "role playing" tab of the store's game section and I see a lot of these packages, so I do see how this is annoying. I personally don't find them overwhelming, but I only browse the app store occasionally. apple should find a way to clean up this excess.

a feature I've always wanted is the ability to just block some apps from my search results. I know I will never buy a flashlight, i don't want to see twenty occurrences of it.

cydia -> manage -> sources -> edit -> add, enter "http://cydia.hackulo.us", hit OK, hit Add Anyway.

cydia -> Sections -> hackulo.us -> Installous

Now you can "demo" apps before you drop money on them.

Yes, everyone needs to use their iPhone as a flashlight. Thank god that Apple doesn't demo THAT one in their commercials.

There are some pretty good games in the App Store that I'd consider buying if I ever pick up an iPod Touch, but... a lot of it is just poorly designed crap. Who the hell at Capcom thought that MEGA MAN 2 on iPod was a good idea?!?

I heard that the mega man 2 game plays surprisingly well. Certainly something to get used to, but playable.

Something more notable is Myst, which I found pretty cool. I couldn't read any of the text, though.

Best iPhone/iPod touch games in my opinion are Fieldrunners and a fantastic port of Wolfenstein 3D.

I think id is working on a port of the original Doom as well. They just released a rail shooter too but it's meh.
