My sister's nano died naught but a year after we bought it though. We switched to a better brand. Well, more like I went I told you so and got her a non-selfdestructing MP3 player.

Actually, it doesn't have a camera, so the new Nano is somewhat more like an iPhone than than an iPod Touch.

Of course, there's still the GPS and the compass left to be added to anything but the iPhone, but, whatever.

It'd be nice if I could get my new 120 working with Rockbox. My old 30 that I salvaged from a pawn shop for 45 bucks died a few months ago (sound died). Worked a hell of a lot longer than I expected it to though for how bad off it was when I initially got it (two years ago).

I would like to get myself an iPhone but with Verizon as my carrier I can't. And for actual music, I'm perfectly happy with my 80GB iPod Video from three years ago. Still works great, no problems. I have no need for an upgrade unless I'm able to get an iPhone and even then I would still use the Video for music since it holds more.

In short, I have no need for a downgrade.

Actually, the iPod touch DOESN'T have a camera. In either of the two generations of said product.
However, of course, the second-generation iPod touch got the hardware volume controls and Bluetooth support among other "grabbed from the iPhone 3G" upgrades, so perhaps the third-generation iPod touch will get some craziness from the 3GS (hardware upgrades like better processor/memory/WiFi chip/etc., camera, etc.)...

For the record, AT&T will rape you if you so much as think about roaming.

I've had great service with Sprint, coverage is excellent everywhere and their customer service is great. Not sure about Verizon and others around here.

There's honestly no way to put this other than bluntly, so I'll just say it.

Anyone who actually paid for the upgrade they should have gotten for free is retarded. I refuse to support Apple's bullshittery on that part. I love my iPod touch, but that's no thanks to Apple itself. Most of the little tweaks that have me so satisfied with how my iPod touch's springboard looks are just that: tweaks, unavailable without a jailbreak and a trip to Cydia.

Sprint, for me, is... ehh. Pretty decent service, but my phone and my mom's phone both have weird problems with going out of signal range (read: the subway) and message services. Plus there's the universal problem of the mobile phone market in the US being years behind that of Europe and Asia... Though Sanyo's never really steered me wrong.

Unfortunately, carrier service varies HEAVILY from state to state and really from one locale to the next.

So saying AT&T is great overall or any service is more moot than anything because it really depends on where you're at.

For me, AT&T is the best I can get...not only that but the rest of my family is on it.

So at what point can I buy a Nano without having to worry about it becoming outdated within mere months?

I'm all for innovation, but geez. At least do clearance sales like they do when new car models come out.
