Now that's a shocker.

I didn't really expect it to ever get localized, honestly.

I never even considered it a possibility, and quite honestly, I'm freaking out

Holycrapholycrapholycrap....

You know, it's probably because Umineko was at least getting a fan translation, and people were starting to translate Higurashi, which means there was enough interest for it.

According to the article...

We proudly announce that we have started the localization of ‘Higurashi when they cry’. We have been getting a lot of requests from MangaGamer’s fans to localize the title. We are very excited and happy to be able to release this best seller title from MangaGamer.com. We target to release the title by the end of October. Please stay close with our release schedule.

So fans 'harassing' a localizer en masse DO get somewhere.

Ah well...

The fan Higurashi translation project only had one chapter done, and wasn't getting anywhere fast from what I heard, so people could have been getting impatient.

YES

Now all they need is to rerelease the DVDs of the show and I'll be happy soul.

I can't wait.

Quick warning for anyone interested: while Higurashi is supposedly a great murder mystery, it’s also incredibly convoluted.

So basically, you need to stamp the "handle with care" label onto that translation. Interesting...

Nice job getting first comment on that news post, Hiryuu.

Uhhh...I didn't know there was competition to do as such.

Although it came up when I reloaded and I went 'damn!' and here's the corresponding thread.

And there's no voice acting for them to mess up, either. Things are looking up!

Did you even watch the dub before the DVDs were cancelled? D: I loved it.

I did.

Some characters had good voice actors.

Some did not.

Like every dub ever.

I hear when you learn Japanese, you can point out some of the seiyuus aren't that great either.

The Higurashi dub was okay, I just got too used to my subtitles. >.>;;

I used to enjoy that kind of ignorance, but, even though I haven't learned Japanese, I occasionally find myself realizing that a voice I'm hearing is kinda bleh. Not excessively bleh, but just.. kinda bleh.

I need to watch Cowboy Bebop again, but I'm almost positive that might be one of the few shows that had perfect dubbing. And FLCL as well.

I believe I was okay with Higruashi's dub, and I'm pretty sure I prefered Ooishi's english voice over the japanese one. Ah well.

In any case..

I would have loved to have heard about this localization.. right after I finished watching Higurashi. I would have probably held back on trying to read up on all the TIPS stuff, all the fan theories, and what not. I felt like this series is better when you're very ignorant on what it's about.
