Users to pay copyright holders.

It's been fun, PB.

Must be some corporate marketing strategy that makes absolutely no sense to us low and dumb consumer folk.

Yeah really:

GGF has to raise $7.8 million in funding in order to buy the site.

They're just throwing away money. Why would they think people who are torrenting illegal stuff because they don't want to pay for the stuff want to suddenly pay for this service? And why make it a pay site when there are plenty of non-pay sites that do exactly what TPB did? Talk about corporate stupidity.

All in all, it was the perfect plan--pay for the verdict by selling out, then proceed to continue fighting for piracy elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the large network of other torrenting sites pick up the slack.

TPB was a legendary place for how they flaunted copyright. Now even in their death you can see how the saavy TPB people tricked some executive idiots into giving them a get out of jail free card.

As for anyone who thought they were loyal to TPB, I guess they were wrong. People like the TPB owners are just too slick to have things like loyalty.

I'm figuring that might be the masked possibility...sell it like this abruptly but still keep working behind the scenes.

I guess it wouldn't be smart to come out straight with the info...but damn if it doesn't piss a lot of people off otherwise.

Yeah, we'll have to see about whether they continue fighting for piracy or not. But it seems likely--I wish I hadn't forgotten where the article about how they would use some of the money to 'finance the pirate party' or something.

Well, if it is the truth...it'd be one of the most 'lol' things that any 'pirate' or conglomeration of such has done to outwit 'copyrighted parties'.

I mean it would likely be the most lol thing period...especially if these marketing people really have no dipshit of a clue and it ends up that TPB gets scat free.

So Global Gaming Factory wants to go bankrupt, right?

There are so many things wrong with this plan that I don't know where to start. So you can continue sharing ILLEGAL files but PAY to do so and the money goes to the COPYRIGHT HOLDERS?!?

Yeah, I mean, if you want to pay the copyright holders, you'd just go buy the product from them directly anyway.

And of course, what of the abandonware whose owners don't care and don't want to hear about? "Uhhh... we'll just pocket that money!" ?

So, in selling the site, does this keep the original owners out of prison? I never quite understood what exactly was going on, I know they were attempting to appeal that sentence but failed or something..? Either way...this is true lolship, right here. Pretty big 'fuck you' to the loyal userbase, though could honestly ever really expect them to really serve a jail sentence just for the sake of this? I don't know, I wasn't a loyal user or anything so I'm not -completely- butthurt, it was nice to have that one big reliable source but I'm really not losing sleep over it. The drama is more amusing than anything else, to be honest xD

Or what about the person who wants to share Linux distros via TPB?

Don't worry, there's plenty of other sources out there...

Oh, and I noticed something else. The MORE you share, the LESS you pay?!? So they're still encouraging you to pirate as much as possible? My brain hurts.
