But really, it's pretty simple. It works very much like our numbering system, but with only 2 digts, instead of 10. When counting, when a place overflows, you add 1 to the next place, just like in decimal.

Every place value is 2^(place's distance from the decimal point)

So 1010 is (1 x 2^3) + (0 x 2^2) + (1 x 2^1) + (0 x 2^0) or 8 + 2 or 10.
