Huzzah!

where the hell have you been???????????????

Nowhere in particular, really. I'll probably start idling chatting in IRC again once my computing situation stabilizes a bit. (Suffering from fried motherboard disease at the moment.)

If anyone here still collects Pokemon cards, dad just listed my large collection on eBay. Starting at $30 after shipping.

We don't know anything about specific cards. But as one can see in the picture, there's an Ancient Mew (look closely), and some kind of Japanese Neo set which appears factory sealed.

Tell him Andy sent you.

Ouch. :| Never had that happen to me, fortunately.

Using a friend's/library PC then, I'd guess?

I hear that. Mine fried about a month ago and I had to put together a quad-core to replace it within a week. One of the transducers took a shit, literally, on my motherboard.

Luckily my laptop still works. I just don't like keeping it on all the time because it overheats.

I'll most likely end up building a new desktop, which is nice I guess. The financial aspect... not so nice.

Maybe you need to remove that giant wad of dust that is blocking your cool air intake. Two laptops that consistently overheated no longer overheat once I removed that wad of dust, the wad of dust wouldn't be taken out by compressed air by the way.

After cleaning my computer, it was still overheating...I missed a giant clunk of dust.

Sure it's the fan and not something that controls it?

Might just need to up and buy a new PSU. Depending on what you get, they're usually 50-100 dollars. I bought my 550W Seasonic for 120 because I wanted a good brand power supply and I'm a tool.

There's a couple of computers at work where you can hear the fan struggling.

Gee, think that maybe the towers should be cleaned every once in a while?

My laptop struggles constantly. I've got to always have it on a cooling fan.

My Dell Mini 9 gets extremely hot... good thing I don't sit it on my lap ever or I may cause permanent damage.

At work we have this huge G4 Imac that has loud as hell fans, thank god it's not on all the time or I would go insane.

The absolute -1- laptop that I owned was an old 486 that weight 30 lbs., was a deterrent, had 1MB of MONO video and 4 MB of RAM. Ran Windows 3.1 on a 170MB hard drive.

I ended up overclocking it from 25 to 33MHz.

Oh the heat.

Back in my day, it was 10MHz to 20MHz

In retrospect, turbo buttons are hilarious.

My 386 has a turbo button, and it goes from 16 to 40MHz.

...Of course, it can't do much of anything either way.

My friend had a computer with Windows 3.1 on it.
Pretty old.
I brought home a 20 pound laptop a couple years ago, only ran DOS. 'Twas pretty sweet. I actually found the word processor on that brick.
