Fucking HELL.

I just got Homebrew set up on my Wii and the SD Card slot breaks, the SD Cards don't lock in anymore.

Bullshit.

Okay, I kinda fixed it. I push it in a little harder and it stays in.

So uh...

Broken console/handheld stories thread.

My mom knocked her GBC into the toilet. It eventually died, halfway - the sound stopped working.

My first DS got dropped, hit the corner of some wooden box. Top screen breaks.

My GBASP got dropped, hit the corner of same wooden box. Screen breaks.

My DS Lite got dropped, couldn't hold onto it due to a wide bus turn. Screen eventually kinda died, though if angled right it's usable.

...I've had terrible luck with Nintendo handhelds. :|

Those are hardy little suckers, but they have those weak points...

In a fit of rage at SMBDX when I was way yonger, I smashed my GBC's screen on a fence.

My brother stepped on my GBA, screen broke.

My DS Lite's shoulder buttons stopped working, this is common on DS Lites from what I hear though.

On to consoles. I've really only had a Gamecube crap out on me, and that was due to the laser getting damaged.

Ah right, my SNES' power cord crapped out when I was little too.

And my Wii's fan stopped working. Solution? Ghetto cooling system. Fan set to max behind it.

All in all, not too bad I suppose.

My Link's Awakening cartridge (original Gameboy one) had something odd. Well, not the cartridge itself but the data. Somehow the data ended up getting corrupted. One save never loaded and the others worked except for one nasty side effect: it didn't show any tiles. Just sprites.

Deleting the save took me a while because:
A) I didn't think about that.
B) I didn't look at the menus well enough to know where Delete was.

Jeez, not being Spontaneous Madness is gonna take some getting used to...

A GBphat's speaker which stopped working for some reason. Probably the only thing that could possibly ever break of that monstrosity. You can still use headphones anyways.

And my NES is extremelly likely to go insane after like 30 minutes of gameplay. It's mostly graphical errors, like certain tiles drawn as the wrong ones for some frames.

Our Wii won't read discs when it's upright anymore.

The glue that holds the screen cover on my old GB has dried up, so the cover can come off entirely now. It's held on with an industrial strength rubber band.

My first Gamecube still technically works, it's just very hard to get it to read disks.

I bought a 3rd party SNES controller when I was young and the thing died very quickly. I've never bought third party controllers again.

Oh, my SNES has frequent graphic fuckups, and an N64 died unexplainably and unexpectedly.

Ugh. :|

None of my consoles themselves broke as I mostly played Nintendo games (And we all know Nintendo hardware), but I remember chewing on the cords of my Playstation controllers a lot, screwing them over.

The small black border around the touchscreen on my DS lite came off about a week after I got it. It doesn't bug me much, but you can see the circuit board underneath.

It also takes a lot of effort to get it to recognise a game sometimes (especially older games). Blowing in the cartridge slot NES-style helps.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything that's broken on me..

A girl stepped on my PSP. Usually I do not keep my handhelds on the floor. But she sat it down in my room one day, came back in from using the bathroom, and accidently stepped on it.

Surprisingly I was not mad at all. For some reason at the time the anger just not kick in.

Then last week I remembered that my friend 'Buddy' told me he can hack it. I was afraid of it breaking.

Then I was angry.

In order....

My NES blew up on me. After that I swore off Nintendo and went with Sega.

My Ps2 stopped playing certain formatted discs before dying all together. This was during a time when I didn't have access Acmlm's board or the net. Freaking bored.

My 360 got the one ring of death and I had to send it in to be fixed.

My "new" NES broke on me and it won't work at all. Planning to get a "new" NES in the future.

I've never had a console break on me. Not one.

Had games break, though...worst being FF7.

Me PM
SNES power connector broke, the little plastic mount on the snes came out. Thing still works fine, though the Wall Wart has a loose wire and sometimes needs to be banged on the floor a bit before the circuit closes.

Gamecube laser burnt out, but otherwise it's still working. I should get a Gecko USB or something, I still have the actual electronics from the 'cube.

A GBA SP of mine broke when I fell on it. IT still worked, but the LCD was totalled in the center (I could see the graphics from the edges, though).

My DS was wrecked partially in an accident involving a banana, and I totalled the battery circuit trying to fix it. Interestingly, I learned just how well a DS handles being soaked in bottled water for a coupld days and then dried in rice. (hint: really well)

Tripped over a Paper Mario 64 cart when it was on a gameshark once, snapped PM's PCB in two. The gameshark kept working, though.

Nothing that I've had has broken catastrophically. I know of several NESes that wont load any games at all. My old NDS Lite's L button stopped working, then the sound died (still could use headphones, though.). My cousin's playstation could only read discs if it was upside down, which was kinda odd.

You might want to keep one of those NESes around... you could build a PC out of it. Dunno how practical it'd be, but if the NES is dead...

I've actually been thinking about modding my broken NES. Just not sure into what yet.
