And I care about as much as I did for the past 8 entries (and variations thereof). That is, not much at all.

As fighting games go, the Mortal Kombat series has always been on the lower end of the quality scale, with its only major selling points being the over-the-top violence/gore and (in the 2D days) photo-realistic graphics (... because the graphics were photos).

I'm not saying there weren't worse fighting games, the arcades got a flood of low-quality attempts to cash in on the craze in the 90's, but Mortal Kombat is basically the lower end of the good fighting games.

Between the upcoming Blazblue, King of Fighters XII, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny, Tekken 6, TMNT Smash-Up, etc. and the already released Street Fighter 4, we've got enough fighting games to hold us over for a while without worrying about Mortal Kombat 9.

....really? They're actually up to 9? The series peaked at 3, to be honest. The series officially jumped the shark with the addition of Zombie Liu Kang (do I even need to touch that?), so I honestly have zero hope what-so-ever for quality in this.

Since 9 hasn't been officially announced last I checked (just hinted at pre-Midway's fall and now mention of mo-cap work on one of the main creator's twitter account), they're probably just using Mortal Kombat 9 as the working title until they come up with a sufficiently retarded subtitle.

At least it's not a horrid franchise. And it has flirted with disaster several times, especially when trying to come out with anything that was NOT a fighting game.
