I don't believe we've ever had a topic for this before.

I'm sure some of you have had some weird things that you believed back in your younger days... anyone willing to share any of these so I know I wasn't completely insane?

Myself, I thought the days of the week were random and that you were either born an adult or a child.

Thanks to the Bernstein Bears, I thought that every "stranger" was going to kidnap or kill me. I was terrified of anybody that I didn't know, and that included new teachers and classmates. I believed this up until the second grade.

Now I know that strangers just want to rape you, which is a huge relief. >.>

Jeez, not being Spontaneous Madness is gonna take some getting used to...
----------------------------
You know The Truman Show?

That. Going to school? Just an excuse to not get out of the usual path I had to take, and the fact that I had to go with someone just made it worse.
In fact going to anywhere. The most simple of places/things would call my attention, but I couldn't get to them and look closely becouse I had to go somewhere already and they wouldn't let me.

I clearly remember things about watermelon seeds and them finding stomaches a good place to grow. Also gum staying in there for seven or so years if swallowed.

I also have a memory of imagining what would happen if I ate too much, considering my complete lack of knowledge of our digestive system. Something along the line of a huge line of food coming out of my mouth...Good god my imagination was crazy back then.

I was told if I looked up at the moon for a long period of time, that my eyes would turn into jelly/goo.

Oh, I remember another one.

I remember being told that if you swallowed a bubble, you'd float away. (Heard the same about never peeing, too. )

I used to think that the little dangly thing in the back of your throat was your tonsils, and that when you had a really bad cough, a "germ" that would stick to that and every time you coughed would peel a layer off...so the more you'd cough to more likely you were to get rid of the illness.

...I think I just came up with that out of pure childhood whackiness and didn't truly believe it, but I recall going on about it as old as ten years old

Up to this part, I actually was the same way. I still fear the idea of getting them removed though... ANY surgery fucking scares me.

The only truly ludicrous belief I remember holding was that sneezing with your eyes open would expel them from your sockets, and apparently people still ponder about this. (That is, people who haven't watched Mythbusters)

Everything else falls under "Beliefs most children have been exposed to in this culture", such as the Easter Bunny, and whatnot.

The thought of such a thing even happening is freaky beyond belief. :|

I do wonder why your eyes close during a sneeze, though... never found anything about that.

When I was young, I thought my parents were evil aliens sent to kill me, right before I would "awaken" and fight evil.

I watched too much television and played too many games way back when.

Apparently sneezing is supposedly some fraction of an orgasm, if that has anything to do with it

I have a couple.

1) I thought my friends were spying on me whenever I was clothed down to my undies. I'd always be relieved when they'd never bring it up on the bus.

2) I never let my grandma watch me play Sonic 2 (until at least 9 I think...) because I thought she'd fall in love with Robotnik. It was my duty to her not to allow that to happen. He's a bad guy you know. D:

3) Every now and again I'd believe that aliens were ready to kidnap me. In fact, I had one time when my lights flickered in my bedroom and I swear I remained frozen in my tracks for a good 20 min. (I know because I was looking at the clock when it happened.) I eventually dashed out of my room all the way to my basement to be with my parents. I remember asking them if aliens exist right after that...

4) Also, thanks to some random TV show I was watching when I was home vomiting... I believed that my white blood cells had laser guns. I kid you not. I knew the basic functions of the white blood cells, but I never could grasp how they actually went about killing the virus, so I just stuck with a sort of mini white robocop kinda' thing.

What video game drilled that into your head, hm?

There were no less than TWO solar eclipses when I was in elementary school and the teachers made us stay inside for recess, insisting that we'd go blind for sure if we even glanced at the sun for a brief instant. Scared me straight.

I kinda like that theory.

When I was about six or so, I'd sometimes try not to step on the carpet, and rather on other things strewn about the floor as if the carpet was quicksand or something. It wasn't a belief (at least I wouldn't call it such) as much as it was just a way to entertain myself, since there really weren't any other kids around nor was there a playground...
