Sigh. I don't like Penn and Teller. Their arguments aren't very good. They often cherrypick non-experts in the field that they're trying to debunk, throw in some VERY ANGRY CURSING and some crappy structured situation and say "WELP, DEBUNKED!!!!!" Giving a nine year old an assault rifle to prove their point is not only straight up wrong, but terrible irresponsible. Adherents of "video games create violence" never claim that kids use assault rifles, or that kids as young as him even shoot places up at all. They mostly argue that late teens or adults use handguns or small submachineguns to shoot places up, not military assault rifles! What a straw man. Besides:
How in the hell is ANYONE supposed to fire a rifle from that position, let alone a small child? The case against violent video games is mostly crap, but don't look to Penn and Teller for reasoning. Very few of their episodes have actually been accurately researched and correctly portray the viewpoints from both sides, and even then, they're sprinkled with exaggeration and shock value. Bah. |

Penn and Teller are usually right when it comes to opinion based things, such as genetic modification to food, but they still have massive problems. Though I agree wholly that genetic modification of food is a good thing for feeding developing nations, who do they choose to portray as anti-genetic modification? A bunch of random hippies. What? When you're debating someone, you have to debate the highest ranked people in their field if you truly want to expose it as a bag of lies... and if you can't do that, you need to drop your side of the debate. Penn and Teller don't do either. When they cannot or are unwilling to beat actual experts in a field, they resort to mocking random idiotic mindless adherents who couldn't debate their way out of a paper bag, let alone against professional bullies like Penn and Teller. Sorry to tell you, but there's little logic in Penn and Teller... just a ton of logical fallacies, misrepresentations, and sensationalizing. As I said, often their opinions are good (I really love this in particular), but when it comes to actual facts and arguments... it's junk. |
