Daniel Petric, 17, claimed he didn’t understand that people don’t re-spawn in real life. He shot and killed his mother, and severely wounded his father back in 2007. The parents forbid him from playing Halo 3 and as a result they ended up dead. The judge at the trial was quoted as saying:

It’s my firm belief that after a while the same physiological responses occur that occur in the ingestion of some drugs. And I believe that an addiction to these games can do the same thing…

The other dangerous thing about these games, in my opinion, is that when these changes occur, they occur in an environment that is delusional. Because you can shoot these aliens, and they’re there again the next day. You have to shoot them again. And I firmly believe that Daniel Petric had no idea, at the time he hatched this plot, that if he killed his parents, they would be dead forever.


Sounds to me he got cockblocked, blew their heads off and is sticking to this story out of his own stupidity, honestly...but hey, whatever's politically correct.

That's by far the most double post I've ever seen you say.

This kid needs a damn reality check. He obviously only meant to punish his parents, apparently.
Then again, killing people is against the law and he should go to jail for it regardless of his intentions.

If the kid had issues before he shot them - OK, maybe not guilty by reason of insanity, get him some help.

If he didn't - well, he's dug himself a pretty deep hole, might as well keep digging until he reaches China.

How does this fucking story hold up? Here's some clips from the original article...

[Daniel Petric] came up behind him as he sat on the couch and said, "Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you."


"Petric said his son shoved the gun into his hand saying, "Hey Dad, here's your gun. Take it."


Mark Petric broke down on the witness stand as he said he believes he survived the shooting only because his daughter and husband arrived at the house to watch an Indians game. He heard his son telling them they couldn't come inside.

"You guys shouldn't come in," Mark Petric recalled his son saying. "Mom and Dad had a big argument."


The boy ran out of the house and fled in the family van.


He obviously knew what he was doing. Whatever, the followup to the story is that the kid is getting 23 years to life. Good riddance.
