You're a cute little VM, yes you are. Awwww.

What's actually pretty funny is that the VM is more stable than the computer that's hosting it, mostly because of GDI resource problems, d'oh. Aside from that, mostly just testing it out in a VM to see how it'll do when it's put on the spot tomorrow.

This VM is actually running Windows XP, as opposed to my other three VMs: 2 Windows 98s, 1 Windows 2000 ... though I think I got rid of the 2000 one.

Anyway, this is the annoying part with Windows Genuine Advantage, so...

(Normally I'd create a screenshot for this post, but as you can probably guess resource limits kind of prevented that)

Oh nice, I guess it passed WGA. I sure wish I had this damn copy back when I first upgraded that computer... would've saved me a lot of trouble (although I would've missed out on my grandparents' damn fine breakfasts )

About 47 updates, though, and probably a whole bunch more for missing drivers afterwards. No big deal, though, heh.

(Also, this has to be the first time I'm actually adding all these fucking abbreviations and other shit into Firefox's damn dictionary)

I like to screw with VMs too, sometimes.

I have a Win98 VM, two DSL VMs, a DOS 6.22 VM, and a Slax VM which to be honest isn't set up yet.

I use the Virtualbox DSL machine the most, actually. 98 hasn't been touched in a while, though I do kinda miss having a Win98 nick like back in 2007

Now that's quite an accomplishment.

I've never been one for VMs, only time I ever used one was when we needed to do a Linux class in school. I see the appeal of it but I would probably only use it for a Linux installation, and then I'd rather just dual boot it.

The reason for the stability difference is the host machine has been up for well over half a year (233 days, 63.8%) and most of its GDI resources have been leaked away It needs a reboot. Badly.

I don't use VMs all that much either.

Funny you bring up Windows Genuine Advantage. I've ran out of Vista activations, in like 3 days this install won't work anymore.

That's why you find ways to combat that.

I thought it was pretty funny, actually. It brought up the WGA installer, I declined the EULA and it self-destructed.

Hasn't bugged me since.

WGA have to be the worst anti-piracy method ever.

My computer that have a legal edition of XP started complaining about WGA, and the only fix that Microsoft could give was to buy a new cd-key for XP.

This would have taken maybe 1 week?

Now going to a certain bay and downloading a quick crack took me 5 minutes and fixed all problems.

And people wonder why I pirate stuff.

Well that figures. Update VMWare Workstation to 6.5 and, surprise, I need to reboot!

I have enough reasons to do so that I'll probably do it later today

Me PM
Heh

I actually use my Win7 VM sometimes, but usually I just use Vista. It's more than stable enough to stay up for decently long periods of time... until I either A) update it or B) install something that needs a reboot to work

Seriously, the number's got to be above 10 by now, if not higher.

The only reason I can tolerate my failtacular laptop is because of the XP VM I have on it.

I have about five VMs, I haven't used any of them in over a month

Mac OS X, latest version. The people at the campus's computer store (a Mac store) told me my major would absolutely require it. Two years in, and I've seen more programs that don't run on Mac than the other way around. :B

Unless they're trying to keep the feature super secret, you can't completely delete an individual file without first sending it to the trash bin and completely emptying it. It also doesn't let you see any hidden files or hide any files yourself. It also seems to take longer to calculate the transfer time of moving a file than it does to actually move the file.

And Macs are ridiculously expensive too.

999 for a low-end one when I can get a moderately high-end Windows laptop for 540? Nah. :|

I payed in total $3000 for mine. It has half the power/capacity as an $800 tablet PC.

I'm getting it more and more set up like I want... to be honest, it's pretty nice having a barebones system with only what I want installed.

Since you're all a fun bunch of people, here's a screenshot for you:
