That's...what I kinda wondered.

Not to mention how much of a chunk of your comp is this going to take for the whole thing running at once?

You'd be surprised.

That is like taking a car salesmen's word that the car is working fine. (Or, as a better example, Mozilla saying that firefox is the safest browser) I wanna see this thing poked at by the security community.

Same with the 'you'd be surprised' comment. I just wanted data on the overhead.

Course I don't see this getting data like that right when it's announced. Maybe soon.

Hoo boy. Hosting files across the web is never an easy thing to do without some kind of security holes popping in for a visit.

The difference is that between Opera and Firefox, Opera has had consistantly lower amounts of security flaws than Firefox (the number was like 30+ to 7 or something equally one-sided).

I ran it for a while and, while kind of neat, is still very obviousy in a prerelease state, so.. yeah. When it's actually fully functional instead of quite so buggy I'll use it.

Yea, but you don't see Firefox doing this, do you?

And regardless of the browser software wanting to add this on, it's going to open doors for holes and computer being bogged down. I'd just like to see HOW much, if a lot to make a real difference.

Many ISPs have clauses in their TOS forbidding this kind of program.

And, in my experience, despite running a publically accessible webserver that has racked up several GB of bandwidth, they don't actually take action against it.

Who knows? Maybe it'll encourage them to remove such limitations.

(Besides, the words I read were always "high-traffic web server", and depending on fuzzy definitions, a personal webserver like that would hardly be high traffic)

Yeah, officially my ISP forbids me to run a web server or connect to more than three IRC networks at a time or run an IRC bot unattended.

(Hint: I do all three regularly)

Pfff. My ISP, before I started using my neighbors, blocked you from connecting to IRC servers entirely. That's the main reason I started using my neighbors in the first place.

Despite being hosted by the great evil of ATT, I don't have any real problems with being forbidden things. That I know of! :p

You could use CGI:IRC or Mibbit or something similar, unless they're disallowed too? If need be, I can link you the CGI:IRC app I used at school.

The same reason that they limit upload so badly: Because the user base was a group of morons who badly misused the services and got in trouble. (re: upload, everyone had huge upload speeds and so were blowing their monthly bandwidth quotas in less than a week)

Yea, I've been told to tone it down on my own ISP for uploading purposes to the point of them throttling my bandwidth while I was at work on a phone call.

Needless to say, I've had to limit the number of outgoing connections where available on mine...at least until I switch to something else.
