It's recording sound from what I'm playing on the computer, and ignoring my voice.

I haven't the SLIGHTEST idea how to fix this. Any ideas? :|

Open volume controls, switch to recording controls, make sure microphone is checked. This may vary depending on your sound card, though (using an Audigy 2 here).

All I know is that my soundcard's a Realtek. The input device is "Realtek HD Audio Input". Saw nothing in CPU-Z.

Switching to the recording section, the only slider I can move is "Recording"... and in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, in the audio tab... only Volume's selectable, and not the Advanced tab.

Notification area (all those small icons) -> Speaker icon -> right click -> recording devices -> Microphone -> Set Default.

dunno if I'm doint something wrong, but there's no recording devices area in the menu when I click - this is XP

either way, in recording devices in soundss/audio device properties, I get only:
"Realtek HD Audio Input"
"Modem #0 Line Record"
"Realtek HD Digital input"

My mic's plugged in, by the way... there's a front mic port (which never worked) and the back port which worked but randomly broke in Skype at the beginning year.

I'd assume it's out of the audio input (or HD)...and you need to make sure that Mic/Microphone is available to select.

It has to be in there somewhere.

The only other thing I would suggest is pitch in some money for a USB mic. They usually mount themselves to their own device regardless of the sound card (in my case the AK5370 Logitech is its own thing to select in sound options).

I've really only heard of such sound problem out of Vista, and those were usually fixed by following the advice above, or with a *ahem*ghetto*ahem* work around. Example: to record audio output with my soundcard, I have to use a splitter and a male-to-male audio cable.

And my luck failed when I went headset shopping. All they had anywhere were audiojack headsets, no USB in sight =[

I picked mine up at a RadioShack for 30 bucks when they were going out of style (clearance). I pretty much haven't looked back since I got it, since it's a nice noise-cancel as well.

The only way I'd change up is if I got a 5H V2 Steel Series headset.

Mine is that cheap Skype model that you may see hanging around Wal-Mart.
25 bucks I think.

I've actually been trying to locate a USB mic (it's better than the N64 VRU's anyway) but I'm really not having any luck... :/

Link. If you don't mind buying online, that is. That's already filtered down to USB only.
