This might be old news to some people, but everything written in Java, Flash, and C#/VB .net can be easily decompiled back to something strongly resembling the original source code.

I was always under the impression that open source was more about the intent rather than the method. We don't call NES games open source just because we can grind them down to assembly levels (even though some of them very much were programmed at that level)

For some reason I like reading peoples' C# code and seeing how they coded their stuff. I love Reflector.

To give you an idea of how accurate it is, I used it on my editor and compared Reflector's code with the original: http://treeki.shacknet.nu/nsmbe4_reflector.png

Actually, most (if not all) of them were, thanks to the extremely slow CPU and small ROM sizes. Games coded in high-level languages would simply be too bulky and slow.

That said, saying things written in easily reverse-engineered languages are intended to be open source is like saying a pile of money left on someone's counter you can just snatch was intended to be given to you.

Why is it that everyone sane puts their open braces on the same line as the statement, but most automated source-generating programs and nutjobs boast about how much better it is to put the open braces on a new line by itself? Sorry, it's a goofy programming nitpick I have.

I program in C/C++ anyway, so I guess my source code would be safe from prying eyes. (Whatever good that would do. )
