You might be better grabbing a torrent of it.

I had problems direct downloading the beta similarly and I had no choice but to grab a torrent of it instead.

Microsoft's site suggests that Windows Vista Ultimate peeps may get 7 for free.

It's Microsoft though...so there's heavy doubt.

Sukasa - Send Private Message

Actually I think XPM might need a higher-than-basic version of Win7, not that I'm complaining about that.

Also, this is probably why 7 runs so well: with XPM in place, most of the old compatibility code can be stripped out of 7, which means it runs a lot faster, using XP to handle all the old compatibility.

10/22.

Finally confirmed.

In order to put customer’s minds at rest, and hopefully keep PCs running Vista selling, Microsoft will also be introducing a guarantee system where anyone buying a Vista PC from a set date onwards will get a free upgrade to Windows 7, or at the very least a discount on that upgrade.

I heard 10/11 from my dad today, but ok...

Anyway, I plan to take full advantage of the upgrade system. I don't want to buy the actual OS. Instead I'm going to get a nice laptop during the back to school sales that has the upgrade from vista guarantee.

Lucky for me I get every version of every Windows operating system for free (legally). Thank you working for the University in an IT field.

Thanks job.

I might actually use Windows 7 at home, been impressed by the RC. More so than Vista anyway.

Best Buy just released their Windows 7 Upgrade deals.

Seems reasonable to me... I plan to take advantage of the new system deal though.

Sometimes I wish they'd ship Windows without a browser here. People ask me thing all the time, like: Why is IE doing this, or what happened to the internet. My answer is almost always "Here's your problem, your using IE. Try using Firefox instead."

----------------------------------------------------

So how are the people in the EU going to download a new browser if they dont have a browser to begin with.

Just sayin' <<

For those who want to download Internet Explorer 8 afterwards on systems without web browsers, Microsoft plans to offer it both on CDs in stores as well as through FTP transfers.

From here.

There are other ways too, but it's likley most people won't know how. Iirc, the older versions of WMP have the ability to browse webpages. I'd hardly called it a browser, but it'll work to get a proper one installed.

Not sure if you guys have heard about this Amazing Deal

But if you have Windows vista OR XP you can reserve Windows 7 right now and own it for 50 dollars. 100 Dollars if you want the professional version.

Vista users automatically have their files transferred upon installation. XP users have to back up their files to a flash drive in order to have everything transferred.

Might want to act now. This offer ends very very soon. Also, download their compatible tool. Let's you know if your computer can run 7 on your PC. Which mine passed with flying colors.

Oh yeah, and if you are using a credit card: You will not be charged until your product is shipped to you. So if you don't have the money, and you want to take advantage of this deal. Convince someone you know that they won't charge you until October. Then pay them before it comes out or something.

I tried the RC, and I... wasn't able to do anything. Lacking your driver discs is fun. :|

If I can find them, I MIGHT try 7 out though. I might leave XP on this computer, though... mostly because transferring my files would be a HUGE pain in the ass and I don't think I'd want to do it even with my new hard disk. :|

Then again, I could also back everything up to DVDs, now that I have a drive that can use them...

If I ever get a job, I might try it, since if it is faster than XP while having full compatibility, it would actually be worth the moniker 'upgrade.'

Otherwise, I'll stick it out with XP x64 edition.

Jul Mosts 2008
Apparently, I missed Best Buy's $50 upgrade window by less than an hour. Their online catalog still showed a sale price of $49.99, but adding it to my cart reverted it back to its original price. The catalog then updated to match the cart price shortly afterwards. The two systems aren't quite in sync.

Oh well...my parents just got a laptop today, and if they don't mind using Vista (or want me to downgrade it to XP), I might just use their free upgrade offer...

Build 7600 is the supposed RTM.

Windows 2008 and Office 2010 are also confirmed a leak.
