Different parts of the south, I guess. The majority here tend to not have them. Then again, I don't consider where I live your "traditional south".

Friend of mine does have a long goatee that he's had for a few years now. His wife just had a baby and we warned him that his daughter will pull on it.

Actually it is. Well, in some areas. You get to the city and it's a mix between holy crap and completely shaved.

I myself have a little beard growing. It's nothing special.

As for getting a beard, there's nothing wrong with it. I had a beard when I was younger, but for the past few years I've gotten a habit of shaving everyday. Maybe I'll retry the beard one of these days.

Yeah, I had to work with one at one point. The guys always complained that they had to be clean shaven every day while she could grow a mustache AND a beard.

Didn't help that she never showered either. My boss actually gave her a razor and soap on a rope for Christmas

I can't wait til my beard is long enough to store leftover frenchfries etc. in it. Beards are awesome, I read it online once so it must be true.
