Ours broke the last day I was there.

90F in a computer room...that had computers on going full blast.

And it's closed off, no windows, second story, metal building.

Final Destination. No mercy.

Growing up we only had a/c in the two bedrooms in a small trailer. So I spent most of my time in my room.

Going back to the original topic of work, since I ride my bike to work, by the time I get there I'm already hot from the heat, so I tend to walk into the 4 degree freezer to cool off. I did that yesterday after a few hours on pizza, while busting my ass to catch up b/c the old man before me doesn't set things up for the next person.

I am going to bump this thread with what I had to deal with today.

So today, I had to work in shit.

Literally.

There is a buisness (Taxes or something like that. Lawyers and whatnot) that I had to work at today to where the sewer line was backed up. Plumbers use what is called a 'Snake' to have it go in and swing around the pipeline while unclogging anything that might be back in there. Well, the snake got cought up in the damn pipes and we could not get the snake back out. Almost lost my arm yesterday and both my boss and I were wondering how it got cought up in the pipes.

Well, guess where it was cought up on. Yep. Sewer pipe. And guess what I had to dig up? Yep, the pipes.

We hired some mexicans to dig up the pipe and I had to go down there where the pipes were, take out the pipe, get a jack and pull the damn snake out. Guess what was all over the pipe and snake?

Feminine articles (Cotex, Tampons, etc.)

Too all the Females that ever read this: Don't put your fucking nasty ass feminine articles down in the toilet. Throw the damn things away so I do not have to go down there and replace a sewer pipe. What has to be the matter with you to throw something solid like that in the toilet? Human waste and toilet paper is the only thing you should throw in there.

By the way, seen how I had to deal with that shit. THey had to pay for it. So it's nice that I got paid for it. But it was seriously the worst thing ever. I am about to take a super hot shower, cause I know the 10 times I washed my hands in alcohol did not take that all away.

So, got any bad parts about your job?

They also call that an auger? I'm reminded of the time my father and I had to use a manual crank in, I wanna say, 3 or 4" ABS pipe back in the basement. It backed up all over the house...and the laundry was the catalyst to it all. My guess was, exactly something like this, people putting nasty crap down the toilet without thinking it won't clog. It backed up everywhere in the house...sinks, baths, toilets. It was so bad that the steam vents, for whatever dumb reason, were leaking fluid out the roof. I dunno how that works but...

I've never seen such a combination of laundry detergent and feces ever. Not even a wet-dry vac was really enough for it on the basement floor. I know that my father's arm was torn the fuck up over trying to use it...but it was opening the entry to the septic and going from there after analyzing the rest of the pipe and ABS/PVC to find it...and the length going from the entry to the actual septic was terribly backed up.

Needless to say, the only thing worse than that I've done in terms of home maintenance or something similar would be roofing. Never again. Never wanting to mess with shingle work like that if I can get away from it...especially on old houses and poorly styled ones to begin with...but we really had no choice since an F0 dropped a tree limb on the house and we had to go for broke fixing it because we didn't get a lot back in insurance, apparently. Oh well.

Yeah an Auger, down here we call them snakes unless you are out there buying one. Then you would use the correct term for it.

About how all that crap was going through the roof is hard to explain. Your house is similar to the human body, the drainage pipe in the roof is actually connected to the main pipes in your house (Except for the Water Meter, that is pushing the water in). Usually if a sink is clogged up we use an Auger on the roof to clean it out rather than stick it in the sink. I am only the apprentice, so it's hard to explain it with my experience. But I am not surprised of your story. I have heard even worse stories where sewage was literally clogged up on the drainage pipe in the roof. Solid sewage.

Needless to say it is a dirty job. And the weather outside now does not help at all. It was 95 degrees today, and heat + Shit = Raunchy fucking time.

Hey they pay the cash for a reason - no one else wants to do it.

Well usually we don't mess with it. Usually.

And by usually, we complain to up the price to play in their sewage. Either that, or else I come in with legal issues and say they will charge triple for what we pay, and they have to still charge us double for having our tools get clung in their mess.

Now if it was something like roots clogging up the drain: Then we call up the city and complain to them. Well not complain, we have to.

Our next job is a huge one. And by huge, we mean digits in the 6's. Luckily it's not sewers though.
