Yea, and we're not happy with it, hence saying put em back the way it was.

I don't know why you'd keep them this way when keeping it how things were would be a bit of an aesthetic please. I just think it's dumb to do so for registered users.

Non-registered? Different story. Ad the thing up.

That might make sense if we had more than 2 unregistered non-spambot non-hack guests on per day.

Seriously, is it really that big of a deal?

The other half of this (aside from paying bills) is that if we manage to get ahead, we can look into other services, e.g. a Ventrilo server for those of us who miss the days when Skype didn't suck total ass.

And I'm saying others like myself and I can foot the bill regardless.

If you really wanted something like what you've just mentioned, you would've mentioned it a long time ago...I've already told you a while back that I don't mind footing dough towards benefitting this place. There is honestly no need to make this place look any worse to attempt to compensate for something so little.

If this was something in or around the tune of 1000 dollars, I think we would have more cause for concern. As it stands, I make what we owe a year in a little over a day right now.

The point is that I WOULD RATHER BE INDEPENDENT INSTEAD OF HAVING TO RELY ON PEOPLE TO FOOT THE BILLS.

Much like moving out versus living with your parents, having a site that is self-sufficient feels good, and means that we can save all of the potential donors for when things really go wrong.

Well, that and in the event something irreversable happens, nobody feels cheated out of their money. That's another big one. Honestly, I just want to avoid taking donations as much as possible.

Oh, and by the way, I was acutally going to make an option in editprofile that would hide the one in threads. But after all of this? It can wait a few days.

Oh right and the amount of posting and the bandwidth, down and up, wouldn't make me want to put just a little bit in to compensate for your trouble.

But I get it...you just don't want to feel like you owe people when we're not in it for something like that. Purely fine...don't want to make you feel like such an offer by staff would serve to put you on point like that. I understand perfectly.

We should have some fake ads. I got photoshop on my computer, so I thought about making some for shits and giggles.

Never made a .gif before with it, so now would be a good time for me to learn.

I'm not that bothered by them, actually. I click on them pretty frequently to help get the income up. I do that on a few sites I frequent. That's the next best thing next to donation, so if you want to help, click some damn ads. Just don't spam click the same ones, usually if the ad's company won't pay if they see multiple clicks from the same person. At least that's what I've heard.

Geeze, what's wrong with wanting to have some self-sufficiency? I'm totally fine with the ads.

Heck, I hardly notice it, even with its new positioning. Only place I actually notice it is at the bottom of the page without something bringing attention to them (like this thread).

You mean like the old Nick.com prank ads?

(apparently nobody on the internet anywhere ever seems to remember this, so I'll just explain: Nick.com had weird "fake ads" for things like "Immortal Wombat" and whatnot. Like Wacky Packages except with ads, basically.)

Wait, you mean people will voluntarily pay my rent and utilities? I'll take it. I'll save the employment for such a time when I need it. You know, like a backup plan for when things really go wrong.

EDIT:
This post is, of course, a parallel to the board here in that my home represents the hosting service and my job represents the ad revenue. It wasn't as obvious as it sounded when I typed it.

Wait, don't you mean the other way around? First you try to be self-sufficient and then if it fails ask for help...
Unless... that's your point.

And I actually don't mind the extra ads. My only complaint is the ads themselves I get, but that's just my problem. It probably works quite well otherwise...

Normally sounds like a plan, though if people offer to throw money at me, I'll cover expenses out of that instead and if that fails, I'll fall back to the ever-reliable taxable income.

Philosopical considerations, is all. If you don't want to go that way, Xkeeper, I'll shut up about it.

People offering to get rid of ads = Free Money.
Ad revenue = Standard Income.
Asking for people to donate = Emergency Funds.

The way I see it, take any free money that's available. If none is available, use the normal means of income to cover any costs. In the event the income dries up, ask for money to fill the cracks until income is available again.

From my perspective, accepting donations even during a period of self-sufficiency is not only acceptable, but a good idea. I don't consider it to be at all depreciating to pay for the site with donations if donations are available. I get the idea that you want to avoid donations because you see them on more the emergency funds side than the free money side.

In the event you're still that damn adamant on donating to get rid of the ads, here:

Donate link. By proxy.

From there, whenever I get the notice, I'll remove them for you. Jeez.
