I had that picture at the top saved from when you posted it somewhere else before. I joined only about a month after Jul started and those forums were already gone by then. I always wondered what the Atlantis No Nazo forum was like .

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the 6th of next month is when a lot of us joined...

Let's have a party!

EDIT: The actual birthday would be July 3rd, according to when Xk's registry date is.

I joined slightly over a month after Jul went up, so I've only heard the legends of these forums. Of course, I have also seen some of the artifacts from that time period, but it's still not quite the same as being there.

...Although, I do remember a certain F-Zero hacking forum that existed back in the day, but I hardly even dwelled within it.

Wasn't a member trying to get a whole bunch of people together to help him create a level editor or something like that? Either way like most group projects it died off and then I had completely forgotten about it until you just brought it up .

I still have my copy of the Atlantis no Nazo ROM from around that time period. I felt so special playing it.

Good times.

Even though I wasn't around at the time that those forums existed people were still talking about Atlantis No Nazo when i joined (BMF even made an extremely short comic based on it ). I decided to give the ROM a try and I enjoyed the game so much that I decided to actually buy a Famicom cart of the game. As a collector, I always buy the actual game if I enjoy playing the ROM enough .

Makes me remember the BLACK HOLE! levels, and when I was dabbling in Sonic hacking I was going to make that water level into Atlantis No Nazo Zone.

Good times.

I think I still have all of my AnN notes and my nsf hack kicking around here somewhere. I'm still amazed at how effective the programming in that game is.

I still have AnN and Pescatore on my PSP.

...In fact, I was playing Pescatore last night. Weird.

Ah yes, the old days. There was also that split second where I hosted the site on my servers before they moved entirely.

Hard to believe so much time has passed. This board has actually outlasted... what... how long did Incarnations 2 and 3 last before dying, again? And Board 2 before splitting?

I think it's outlasted both, yes. To that end, all of the forums in that screenshot still exist:

Atlantis no Nazo hack (defunct), last post 07-11-07

Tal Tal Heights, aka General Chat for Awesome People

Guess.

So yeah.

It was F-Zero X for N64. I took a quick poll to see who would be interested and who would be able to help with what, which generated sufficient interest to start the project.

"Who will help me make the editor?" I asked. "Oooh, me!" "I will!" "Me! Pick me!"

And then came the day when "Okay, time to work!" was the word of the day. "Oh, I don't think I can commit to that." "Sorry, this is beyond the scope of my capabilities." "Uh oh, looks like I'm going to be busy."

Lesson learned? The internet is even worse than the real world. With all the general moaning and complaining about how real life sucks, I probably expected it to be the other way around.

Yeah. Truthfully the editor shoulda been made first, then the forum. At least. The people who then use the editor begin to investigate on their own, and if properly maintained, then the forum could build a technically-able community and etc.
