It will have 4-player co-op.

So wait is it exactly the same as the DS one except now it has co-op added in? I'll be rather dispointed if that's the case .

If it is a completely new game then I'll be first in line to get it when it comes out .

NSMB Wii looks like Four Swords but as a side-scroller... could work. Hopefully there's a single-player mode too, because that's the only way I'll pick it up.

But... who knew Nintendo would have TWO Mario titles? Super Mario Galaxy 2 officially announced!

The multiplayer demonstration looked like a rush to grab coins and get to the flagpole first. Dunaway mentioned that the game does have a single player mode, which itself can be played co-op with up to four players.

No mention of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Having more good 4-player co-op games is always good. I can play this with my friends now like we've been doing with the Tales Series. Galaxy 2 looks awesome as well. Yoshi!

Anyone want to post a link to a video of Mario Galaxy 2? I can't find one on Youtube, and I didn't get to watch the E3 keynote live.

I don't think that there are any videos of it yet. I was actually looking for one myself .

The music in that trailer was great. I loved when the SMG main theme came in halfway through. Looks like Yoshi is going to have a lot of uses in the game as well. Tongue swinging, fiery running, balloon floating, looks like the same great fun I had playing SMG1.

I am so excited. I completely did not see either one coming. I can see me and my brother having a great deal of fun with it, since we've been wanting true co-op Mario for a very long time.

Did anyone else notice how much influence from SMW that Super Mario Galaxy 2 had? Yoshi powers and Banzai Bills and Grinders, oh my!

Banzai Bills were in the first Galaxy, I believe. I don't think you had to run away from them like in the Galaxy 2 video, though.

Right, though they only showed up in the very end, in one part of the last level.

Either way, very awesome.

I'll be honest and admit that I didn't really notice the SMW influences the first time that I watched it. The grinders just seemed like a generic enemy that is used in a lot of video games and I wasn't really paying attention to how big the Bullet Bills (or Banzai Bills rather) were . I really like the part of the video where Mario is in a giant SMB1 themed area, I hope that is an entire level instead of just a bonus area. I also hope that Buoy Base comes back.

Hyped about the new Mario game, not so much with Galaxy 2. Maybe I should play the first one.

Mario Galaxy was amazing. It was one of the few Mario games aside from Mario 64 that I played straight from start to finish over the course of a week.

NSMBWii looks pretty great too, although other than the coop, it looks like a prettier version of the DS game... as long as they don't give us any stupid waggle, I'm fine with that.

Being knowledgeable about all the inner-workings of the level engines of Super Mario games, I've always been disappointed that Nintendo wouldn't re-use level engines to create sequels, knowing what the possibilities were. The only such example in the main series before SMG2 was Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan (aka Lost Levels).

I understand why Nintendo didn't want to just released rehashed games, and that Myamoto wanted to reinvent the series in each new release, but wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo released a direct sequel to Super Mario 3 with 100+ new levels using the original engine? How about Super Mario 64 2? Yoshi's Island is certainly one of the greatest 2d platformer of all time, but I certainly would've loved a more direct sequel to Super Mario World... new levels with the same engine, maybe one or two new power-ups and blocks, not a complete reinventing of the wheel for each new Mario game...

Obviously, this kind of wishful dreaming is what fuels the ROM hacking scene.

I'm not saying that Nintendo should release 5 Mario games using the same engine and not evolve in any major way, but considering that probably more than half the development time on a Mario game must be spent on designing the level engine and level editor itself, it's only logical to put that engine to use for at least one other game, adding new twists and making use of unfinished "beta" stuff along the way. It's only easier to create a game with tons of all new levels when the level engine is already done.

So that's why I'm really happy about Super Mario Galaxy 2. IMHO the first one is an amazing game, and after being done with it I just wanted more of... Super Mario Galaxy.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii...

Cooperative side scrolling...

Seems familiar.

I must be the only one who thought of LBP when this was unleashed, seems awfully similar as far as concept goes, take away little rag dolls and add mario characters = even more money than LBP.

Except I really doubt this game will have extensive level-editing tools.

Mario now apparently has a Penguin Suit. Cue fanart of Mario in a Prinny suit...
