I've never seen Tropic Thunder, although I saw that part in the promos. But I didn't even think of Tropic Thunder when I read that, the phrase "What do you mean 'you people'?" predates that movie. Normally, characters say it when they think someone is making generalization about their race. Usually, no on is, and its used for a humorous effect in a racially tense scene.
