Okay, so I've got this computer. It only has 1 GB. So I plan to, say, get 3 more GB, or maybe all 4 at once.

I search for the type of memory I need--PC3200 DDR1 128-pin.

So I see a bunch of results, like this. But the question is--what of these 'OEM' things? Are they any good?

And no. I won't get a new mobo, even though DDR2 is dirt cheap and... DDR1 is getting more expensive. I just wanna know what to avoid, if anyone has any knowledge of that.

I just got done telling someone to get two gigs of OCZ Platinums off Tiger for 75 bucks this morning.

I'm afraid it gets no cheaper for two gigs if you want quality. DDR is way, way up in price right now. DDR in any higher quantities is foolish...unless you're running a 64-bit system w/ Vista, and I doubt you are.

I have a 64 bit Windows XP, so yes, 4 gigs is useable to me.

...Now that just seems a little odd then. You're running a system that uses DDR RAM yet you're using 64-bit?

What kind of processor do you have with that? A Pentium 4? Is it even capable of running 64-bit properly?

AMD's 64-bit processors didn't support DDR2 for quite awhile. Not until the AM2 slot.

Socket 939 AMD Athlon X2 4200+.

Got it 'cuz there was a fire sale on Socket 939... almost 3 years ago when I got it.

Yeah, I like odd stuff.

For more details, it's an ASUS A8R-MVP mobo.

OEM is like Retail, except they come without packaging, instructions, support, and sometimes without warranty.

Yes, and I hear in the memory case they're put together out of chips found about without much concern for testing.

My main concern is avoiding DOA memory, since that would be impossible to fix since I couldn't afford any more and if it's OEM, the lack of... anything might screw me over.
