I am having difficulty going into NAT type 2 for the PS3. So I know this is strictly a router issue.
I am using a Netopia 2210-02 series. So this is what it looks like when I open up my router.
As you can see. I listed the IP the PS3 uses. I can tell it's the PS3 because of course that is what it says under the Network settings.
So I looked up the ports used and followed a tutorial on this. This is my result.
However, once I did this. It still says I have a NAT type 3 on my playstation 3. Is there anything I am doing wrong?
If you need me to do something. Like if you want to take a look. I can post a screenshot of everything I have done. |

^^^^ The PS3 can connect to the internet just fine. But seen how it's using a NAT type 3 connection: It isn't very promising.
Also my home is 192.168.1.254, not 1.1
I'll redo the images and just get rid of the Mac addresses.
E- I am an idiot. I misread your post. The 1.1 is my PS3. I made sure of this from the network test on the PS3. I can change the numbers on the IP to something like 1.102 or something like that. |

This might not work, mostly because I suck at networking as it is, but apparently there's a video about this on YT.
Not sure if you've already consulted Google on this or not.

I already consulted his video and he sucks at explaining this. The first 5 minutes is him blabbering about how late he has been staying up. How much this helped his friends. And so on.
The only thing I have seen in this video that I found strange was something called a DMZ. Which not only does he not explain this, he completely skips that step and moves on to different ones.
I checked out some other videos as well and most of them work with a Linksys router. Mine is that stupid router you get from Bell South when they send the products to you.
Trust me, I've done my research. I figured I would post this here because I was assuming I could get some immediate help instead of joining a forums filled to the rim with "lol" and so on.
Also Here is the guide I followed to get where I am now.
********Edit- Crap, I think I know what I did wrong. Let me try this one thing and I will get back to you |

Actually, portforward.com was the next thing I was going to suggest...
After that...I totally don't know. That might go so far as to be needing to call Bell South technical support on that one (as thrilling as that may sound) to get a definitive answer.
Although I'm not sure if most tech support will even know what the heck that is. I have faith they probably don't.

Yea sounds about right.
Best Buy will charge 40 bucks to change out or add RAM.
Doesn't surprise me.

Fuck this router. An admin can close this.
Turns out the model I have is just too damn complicated. So I went ahead and just ordered me a router that a lot of other PS3 owners recommend. I'll just follow the directions when I buy the router and soon I will have NAT 2. (Which means I won't get booted off as much as I used to.)
Edit - Well, let me see what Joe has to say before this is closed. What do you want to see? |

I have looked everywhere for the DMZ option. Unfortunately, I can not find it.
The ports I was forwarding are the same that are found in This link
But if you need me to Screen cap everything. I can.
E- Found DMZ. It was under "Ip Passthrough".
Currently it says "IP Passthrough is currently enabled for 192.168.1.1" (Which is my PS3.) And still no NAT 2.
Edit- Somehow, after a couple of more tweaks, I have made NAT type 1. Which means it's now directly connected to the router. (And for some people, this is just the same as NAT 2. However, it's the ghetto way. No problems though).
So for the time being. That is my fix. I suppose

Well for some reason, I made NAT 1. Which means it's directly connected to the router. (How I am able to do this and be able to connect to this computer and my laptop? I have no clue)
But NAT 1 is the same as NAT 2. Except NAT 2 is more 'proper'. So I guess it's fixed up...If it isn't broken, don't fix it. |

| What do you mean by "connected directly to the router"? How else would it be connected? |

See, now me and the guy who made that tutorial, we speak the same language.
Type 1 just means you opened all the ports. Type 2 means you have only opened the necessary ports. Ideally you only just need Type 2. Type 1 may either mean your entire router firewall is off for all things (horribly bad), or just for the PS3 (weird, but okay.)
How did you enable DMZ? Is it strictly per-IP only?

Doesn't seem weird to me. Every router I've seen only supports one device in the DMZ. I'm not even sure how you would have more than one device in the DMZ. Placing a device in the DMZ just automatically forwards any incoming connections to it, that aren't though ports forwarded to another device. If more than one device was in DMZ, there would be no way of know which one the incoming connections go to.
When he set his PS3 in the DMZ, or "Ip Passthrough", as his router seems to call it, the effect was basically the same as if he connected his PS3 directly to a modem. Unless the additional ports the PS3 tests happen to be ones forwarded to another computer, the PS3 wouldn't be able to tell the difference. This is why it shows NAT type 1. |

Yeah but the weird thing is every time I put in all the necessary ports, I still get NAT 3. When I did the IP passthrough without the ports, I got NAT 3; with the ports it was NAT 1.
I have no effin clue on how to get NAT 2 with this Motorola router. I am going to get a networking friend of mine to take a look at it. And if that does not work, I'll just buy a new router and work with the one PS3 owners like the most. However if you guys want to take a look. Just tell me what to do and I will take screenshots of it. Any help is appreciated.
@ Metal_Man, I believe it is IP only. When I enabled this, it asked which IP should it allow. Then I chose the PS3's IP. As listed above. It's 192.168.1.1 I believe.
E2- yes, You can see "Dale", and "Dale Smoke pot". The one with smoke is mine, and the one called Dale is my father's computer. |
