| I've noticed a big part of the members are 0 post users that haven't ever posted. Why would they go and regester for no reason? It seems unusual to do that. |

You think it's bad here, SMWCentral has a total of 5751 users. 4601 users have 10 posts or less. 2774 users have 0 posts, almost half the total number.
For every popular forum, you will always have a large number of members who register and never post.

That's why I avoid signing up for places unless I absolutely know I'm going to post there or someone asks me to. 
I'm guessing many of them have forgotten about this place. I did a random check on one and the user's last activity at all was less than 24 hours after registering. In 2007.

Same thing with me. I only register for places if I'm planning to be active on them in most cases. I have trouble entering into new communities after having spent so much time in old communities that I call my home online.

I'm pretty sure I'm like that in a few places, actually.
But the difference is if I am then it's probably because I'm only on there for the services on their site to get access to. If the forum/community doesn't interest me in the least, I won't post.

If I can remember correctly, back in the 2001-2003 days, it was definitely allowed.
I wasn't around until late 2003, though, so I honestly wouldn't know. :|

Some people lurk for a long time then post, some people think they're going to post but end up forgetting about the place, some people post once in a blue moon... it's not worth thinking about. 
I always loved when we'd prune inactive members on the original board; I think the first pruning was pretty large.

I made ~600 posts slowly, then lurked for quite a while. After a spree happened, I made ~1400 posts.
Just give them time.
