Brand new motherboard. MSI K9vgm-v. I think the integrated video card is faulty. Not getting any output to monitor whatsoever. Tested on multiple monitors. So my question is this: How do I disable the video card in BIOS if I can't get a display?
If I just knew the keys to get there... |

It varies via BIOS. If you have no idea what it is, you're screwed.
Even similar models can have varying BIOS option layouts.

Only info I have about the BIOS is that it's an Award(LPC) Flash ROM chip., and it's called Phoenix - Award Workstation BIOS CMOS Setup Utility.
I could get more if I had a display, but thats all the user guide says about it.

Have you tried putting a jumper on the BIOS reset?
You might be able to get it to swap over to the PCI/e/AGP that way on a second video card. If you can't access it in that means, then it's a tanked mobo unless you re-solder a new BIOS chip that would allow access around it.
Not too happy with most MSI boards, honestly.

This is why I said put a jumper on the BIOS if you can't. Some of your systems don't have the capacity to change over to a video card that is put in an alternate slot and must be made as such either in BIOS or the first time you ever put in the card (I had a RADEON 9250 STEALTH that was like this...very tricky without a reset sometimes and you had to follow the instructions to the letter).

| I think the mobo should just be considered DOA. Yes we've tried the reset jumper, no dice. Another thing: I've never known a computer to start without that jumper present, this one does. |

Ahhh some of the ones I've seen, mainly Gateway boards, operate in the same fashion. If no jumper is present, it assumes it's in normal op mode.
But that blows. :\

| Yeah, this isn't really normal op mode. It won't shut off. Well, it will if you hld down the power button, but as soon as you release it, it powers back on. We're trying different methods and orders of resetting. Resetting with the external card, without it. and things like that. I think it may be a lost cause. |

You got any arced pins on that board, specifically near the area that serves to jump the power? I would assume you don't but I would wonder if removing the jump cables around those terminals and using a Philips or slotted to cycle the power would do you any good.
But yea that does sound like there's something up with something more than just a video issue. You've probably got a mobo you need to RMA.

| Not worth it ot RMA. It's for a public school and they'd have to go through the county and get an exchange or anything. We'll just count the losses, I guess. Thanks for the help though. |
